Tempe Little Theatre, the community's only non-profit, all volunteer, theater company will present SLYVIA beginning November 20 at the Tempe Center for the Arts.

SYLVIA was written by A.R. Gurney, author of many other works including Love Letters, The Cocktail Hour, and The Dining Room.  This play was written as a Broadway vehicle for actress Sarah Jessica Parker

The story is about a dog, the couple that adopts her, and the comedy and drama that results. SYLVIA is cute, affectionate and irresistible.  She is the life-changing dog who enters the life shared by Greg and Kate.  To Greg, Sylvia is a distraction to the stresses of life. For Kate his wife, the canine is one more contender for Greg's affection. As Sylvia takes her place as part of the family, the trio experiences both comic and heartwarming situations that enable them to accept each other and realize their importance in each other's lives. This tale spins some funny doggy insights, especially for an audience that already knows what great companions dogs can be. We do quickly see that the play is concerned with marital relations even more than canine relations.

Performance dates for SYLVIA are November 20, 21, 27, 28, December 4, and 5 at 8 p.m.; November 22, 28, 29, December 5 and 6 at 2 p.m.; and December 3 at 7 p.m.  September 18, 19, 25, 26, October 2 and 3 at 8 p.m., October 1 at 7 p.m., and September 20, 26, 27, October 3 and 4 at 2.p.m.

All performances will be held at the Tempe Center for the Arts at 700 W Rio Salado Parkway at Tempe Town Lake.  Ticket prices are $20 for adults and $18 for seniors (55+) and students.  Reservations can be made by calling the TCA box office at 480-350-2822 or by visiting their website at www.tempe.gov/TCA.

This production is intended for mature audiences and is supported in part by the Arizona Commission on the Arts with funding from the state of Arizona and the National Endowment for the Arts, SRP and the city of Tempe.  Tempe Little Theatre is ADA compliant.partially supported by grants from the City of Tempe, the Salt River Project and the Arizona Commission for the Arts.
