Artistic Director Ward Smith along with actors Darren Constantine and Naima Tabernuro are honored to bring this historic date with destiny to the bay area. This powerful surrealistic fantasy play that puts the audience in room 306 of the Lorraine Motel is about a conversation between Dr. Martin Luther King, and a mysterious hotel maid who brings him a cup of coffee. This prompts him to confront his life, his past, his legacy and the plight and future of African-Americans. Hall’s insight, light touch and lively mood depicts King as a real man with very human foibles who was nonetheless capable of inspiring millions to hope and move toward a momentous societal shift for equality and justice. The production runs April 7th & 8th at 8PM with a special matinee Sunday April 9th at 3:00pm as well as April 14th &15th and April 21& 22 at 8PM. The Heather is named after SAG-AFTRA actor, Heather Philipsen, whose courage and bravery during her time of struggle is an inspiration. The members of The Heather hope to allow her spirit and legacy of strength and genuine caring for others to live on through their performances and generosity to their community. The Heather is a 501c3 not-for-profit professional theatre company dedicated to producing intimate, socially challenging, artistically brave and inspiring works of live theatre.
