The Sydney Symphony Orchestra (SSO) has today announced Terrey Arcus AM as the new Chair of its Board, succeeding John Conde AO who has held the position since 2007.

Speaking of his appointment, Mr Arcus said it was an honour to be elected Chair of Australia's flagship orchestra after serving as a member of the Board for almost five years.

"I thank my fellow Directors for entrusting me with the responsibility of Chairman of the Board," Mr Arcus said. "I look forward to working with the SSO's Managing Director Rory Jeffes and his management team in continuing to expand the Orchestra's reach & connection with its audiences, while supporting our inspiring Chief Conductor and Artistic Director David Robertson in his artistic vision for this great company."

"It's a privilege to be asked to lead an organisation in such fine shape. On behalf of the SSO, I would like to express my gratitude to John Conde for eight years of exceptional leadership of the Board. During his tenure the SSO welcomed a new era, establishing itself as the leading cultural ambassador for Australia in the Asia-Pacific region while continuing to delight audiences across NSW with its outstanding performances, education and outreach activities."

Mr Arcus has been a corporate advisor for 40 years, working with the CEO's of leading public & private corporations on strategy and organisation. Prior to this he was a Director at McKinsey & Company, Inc. where in the 1980's he established the firm's resident practice in Asia outside Japan, focussing on the Chinese community in Hong Kong, Taiwan and China.

A passionate supporter of the arts, Mr Arcus is a former Vice-Chairman of the Australia Council for the Arts. In recognition of his pro-bono work for large not-for-profit education, arts and medical institutions, he was appointed a Member of the Order of Australia in 2007.
