Adelaide-based Brink Productions, in association with the Adelaide Festival Centre, will bring Australian Nobel Laureate Patrick White's acclaimed short story Down at the Dump (1964) to the stage in a world premiere production from 10-24 October, 2015 in the Space Theatre, Adelaide Festival Centre.

Adapted by Brink Productions and featuring the Zephyr Quartet, this story will be brought to life as The Aspirations of Daise Morrow and in the tradition of Brink's richly theatrical and immersive style, the brilliance of White's writing will be revealed in all its glory.

Brink's Artistic Director Chris Drummond says, 'The Aspirations of Daise Morrow is about seizing the day and not letting the bastards grind you down. It's masterful storytelling, filled with magic and wonder.'

Set in the fictional suburb of Barranugli, the Hogbens prepare to bury the scandalous Daise Morrow, but Daise still has aspirations for the living.

In a non-traditional setting, this immersive performance will see the actors performing in and around the audience on the Space Theatre floor, accompanied by the Zephyr Quartet playing live.

Chris Drummond continues, 'We will move the audience into a world of brilliantly drawn characters, bathed in laughter, music and light. A story of small communities in all their complexity; it's about fear of outsiders, the unknown and the uninhibited. I think it's a poignant evocation of the wonders of small beginnings, the complications of compassion and the grace and majesty of love.'

The Aspirations of Daise Morrow will be directed by Chris Drummond with designs by Michael Hankin, lighting by Nigel Levings and musical direction by Hilary Kleinig.

New music for the production will be composed by Belinda Gehlert, Emily Tulloch, Jason Thomas, and Hilary Kleinig.

The cast is Paul Blackwell, Lucy Lehmann, Kris McQuade, James Smith and the Zephyr Quartet.

Tickets are on sale from today (27 October) through BASS 131 246 or www.bass.net.au
