This Thursday, famous opera moms will take the stage at the Music Gallery! From the vengeful Queen of the Night in Mozart's The Magic Flute to the baker's wife from Sondheim's Into the Woods, opera is full of mothers with agendas. Maestro Sforzini will explore the relationship between mothers and their children with the help of

Susan Hellman
sopranos Susan Hellman, Hein Jung, and Michelle Rego. Hellman, who was Micaëla in SPO's production of Carmen, will sing arias from Norma, Madama Butterfly, and Suor Angelica. Making her debut with SPO, Jung will sing the Queen of the Night's chilling arias. Rego will sing selections from Into the Woods and Mozart's Le Nozze di Figaro.

The December EWTM, Bohemian Rhapsody, will be extra-special! As Seasonal Sparkle will include the entire second act of La Boheme, we are presenting some of the other bohemian music from Puccini and from Freddy Mercury and his band, Queen. This program will include the principals from Sparkle and will be presented in THREE locations. In addition to our regular Thursday night at the Music Gallery on December 15, we are going to Lake Seminole Square on Saturday, December 17 and will add some holiday favorites to this show. On Sunday, December 18, we hit the road to Sun City Center. All of these performances are open to the public, so if you can't make the Thursday night show, join us for one of the others. We'll put the details in the December newsletter, but mark your calendar now with the dates.

Evenings with the Maestro is presented at the Music Gallery, 5990 Ulmerton Road, Clearwater, at 6:00 p.m. on the third Thursday of each month. The programs address a different theme to enhance your understanding of opera and of music in general and last approximately 90 minutes. Afterwards, the audience is invited to join the Maestro and the cast for conversation and refreshments at a local restaurant. Details will be announced at the performance. Tickets are $17 ($12 seniors and students) and are available in advance on the St. Petersburg opera website, www.stpeteopera.org or by calling the office at 727-823-2040. Only a few tickets are still left for November, so don't wait!
