Winner of the Tony Award, the New York Drama Critics' Circle Award, the Drama Desk Award, and the New York Outer Critics Award for Best Play, Equus explores how society's obsession with normalcy has destroyed our acceptance and understanding of passion. When 17-year-old Alan Strang's religious ecstasy compels him to commit a violent crime, he is brought to Dr. Martin Dysart for treatment. Dysart, a renowned child psychiatrist, finds his own life lacking the intense passion with which Alan lives his. He becomes deeply invested in Alan's spirited worship of horses as his god, Equus. Alan's case becomes a catalyst for Dystart's examination of his own purpose, and society's value on conformity.

Ivey Award-winning Theatre Coup d'Etat maintains its tradition of a dynamic, actor-driven production. Combined with the intimacy of Savage Umbrella's SPACE, Theatre Coup d'Etat's production of Equus is another can't-miss experience. Our opening weekend, November 6th - 9th, is Pay-What-You-Can!
