Britain’s best-loved pianist Steven Hough takes centrestage in the five definitive Beethoven piano concertos over three exciting performances under Lan Shui. Beethoven’s final piano concerto, the Emperor, is noble in character and his most popular piano concerto, described at its premiere as “one of the composer’s most original works”. No. 2 was actually the first of the five to be composed, and Beethoven sought to establish a name for himself with this work after his move to Vienna from Bonn.
