The Playwrights' Center held its 45th Anniversary Gala May 4, 2017 at The Blaisdell in Minneapolis. The Center's Producing Artistic Director Jeremy B. Melanie MacQueen directs actors of Theatre 40 in a staged reading of A Phoenix Too Frequent, written by Christopher Fry in 1946. This event is part of Classics in the Courtyard, a 20-year-old series presented in the inner courtyard of historic Greystone Estate in Beverly Hills. The cast includes Jennifer Laks, Jonathan Medina and LeeAnn Rowe.

As BroadwayWorld sadly reported yesterday, award-winning Broadway actor John McMartin has passed away at the age of 86. McMartin most recently appeared on Broadway in 2014's ALL THE WAY and the 2011 revival of ANYTHING GOES. 

Woodie King Jr's New Federal Theatre kicks off its 44th season with the first play of 'The Ed Bullins Project' - two revivals from his 'Twentieth Century Cycle of Plays' - IN THE WINE TIME, to be followed by The Fabulous Miss Marie this spring. In The Wine Time, directed by Mansoor Najee-ullah, will begin performances October 25th at Castillo Theater (543 West 42nd Street), continuing through November 24th. Opening Night is set for Thursday November 7th.

Afraid of the Dark is making its World Premiere in London this autumn, playing at The Charing Cross Theatre now through 26 October, with a press night on Wednesday 11 September. Directed by Jo Bonney, this production features Gordon Clapp, Erin Darke, Jonny Orsini, Devin Ratray, Dennis Staroselsky, Theo Stockman and Claire van der Boom. Limited Off-Broadway engagement is slated April 5 - May 26 at The New Group @ Theatre Row (410 West 42nd Street). The official Opening Night was Monday, April 30 at 7:00 PM. An elaborate presentation took place at Universal this week as the characters from Whoville honored Tippi Hedren for her work with animals at The Shambala Preserve (Shambala.org).

Actors Equity held a celebration for the 60th Anniversary of the Gypsy Robe on Monday night, October 25th at Sequoia on Pier 17 at the South Street Seaport where past gypsy robe winners came back to reminisce and to celebrate.
