BWW Recap: R is For Rory on Twisty AMERICAN HORROR STORY

All is finally revealed on the sixth episode of AMERICAN HORROR STORY Season 6; and it's safe to say, most of us aren't surprised. The big twist that creator Ryan Murphy is finally out and while it isn't completely surprising, elements of it certainly are while the show finally delivered on what we've been wanting and became the horror and suspense drama it promises to be. We find out immediately, just as many predicted, that the sixth episode would turn the docu-drama series that was My Roanoke Nightmare on its head; integrating both the subjects and the actors portraying them in the reenactments. In what was a brilliantly directed episode by Angela Bassett, making her behind the camera debut, Episode 6 really brought a new flavor, feel, and urgency to the series that elevated it above what we've seen the rest of the season, turning in on itself to make commentary on the industry and culture AMERICAN HORROR STORY itself is so ingrained in while upping the stakes for the story.  (more...)

Today, Buckland Theatre Company has announced casting for LUV, the company's second production at PARK90 at Park Theatre. Directed by Gary Condes, Nick Barber will play Milt, Elsie Bennett will play Ellen and Charles Dorfman will play Harry. Written by Murray Schisgal (best known for co-writing the screenplay for Tootsie), LUV premiered on Broadway in 1964 directed by Mike Nichols and was Tony nominated for Best Play and Best Author. LUV will play at PARK90 from 8 Decemberuntil 7 January with an official press night on 13 December. New York's Broadway and London's West End have long been the biggest destinations for live theater, and now, a new exhibition opening at The New York Public Library for the Performing Arts honors the rich creative talent and award-winning productions in both cities. Co-curated by The Library for the Performing Arts and the V&A, where the exhibition debuted earlier this year, in partnership with the Society of London Theatre (SOLT), Curtain Up: Celebrating the Last 40 Years of Theatre in New York and London highlights how the theatre districts of both cities have flourished and developed since 1976. This past weekend The Main Stage, Inc. presented Sweeney Todd for just two nights at The Century Center's Bendix Theater. The musical follows Sweeney Todd, formerly known as Benjamin Barker, as he returns to London after a 15-year exile. Todd has returned to exact revenge upon the corrupt Judge Turpin who had him wrongfully imprisoned so he could pursue Todd's beautiful wife. During his quest for revenge, Todd returns to his former career as a barber (with a deadly twist), with the help of Mrs. Lovett, an admirer of Todd's who runs a failing meat-pie shop. (more...)

In presenting Harrison David Rivers' play "Sweet," Dr. Barbara Ann Teer's National Black Theatre (NBT) invites all audiences to #TakeABreath, a rare reprieve from the headlines to explore a work of hope and promise. Featuring the talented Raelle Myrick-Hodges in her New York City directorial debut, the production has its first preview on Wednesday, October 19, and opens Saturday, October 22, running through Sunday, November 20.
