In honor of the last week of NATASHA, PIERRE & THE GREAT COMET OF 1812, the show just invited fans to Times Square to read Leo Tolstoy's War and Peace out loud, tag-team filibuster style, to celebrate great literature that has been made in to great theater! The music of the late composer Dory Previn was celebrated at a gala for the Tony and Pulitzer Prize-winning Vineyard Theatre last night. Best-known as the writer of such hit songs as 'Theme from Valley of the Dolls,' 'Mary C. Brown and the Hollywood Sign,' 'With My Daddy in the Attic,' 'You're Gonna Hear from Me,' DORY PREVIN was a legendary figure as a pop-folk singer-song-writer in the 60's-70's and 80's. The Gala performance was directed by Rachel Chavkin (NATASHA, PIERRE AND THE GREAT COMET OF 1812), with musical direction by Jon Spurney. Barnes & Noble just celebrated the release of the new Ghostlight Records cast recording NATASHA, PIERRE AND THE GREAT COMET OF 1812 with a special in-store performance and CD signing yesterday, December 10, the CD release date. The event was hosted by composer/writer Dave Malloy and included director Rachel Chavkin and members of the original cast. NATASHA, PIERRE AND THE GREAT COMET OF 1812 - which concluded a hit summer engagement downtown - is now playing at the opulent custom venue Kazino in the Broadway Theater District, on West 45th Street between Times Square and 8th Avenue, for a 14-week limited run. NATASHA, PIERRE AND THE GREAT COMET OF 1812 began performances on Friday, September 27 and is scheduled to run through Sunday, January 5. Kazino is a brand new venue created specifically for the show, in the heart of New York's meatpacking district, to transport audiences to a Russian supper club, complete with an authentic Russian menu and bar.
