The award-winning teens of Riverdale Rising Stars present THE WEDDING SINGER, the Broadway musical based on the hit movie of the same, for six performances only, now through December 20, 2015 at the Riverdale YM-YWHA, located at 5625 Arlington Avenue (just off of Riverdale Avenue and West 256th Street), in Riverdale, Bronx, NY. American Blues Theater, Chicago's second oldest Equity ensemble celebrating 30 years of presenting visceral theatrical works while engaging its audience in missions of local service agencies, presents THE RAINMAKER by N. Richard Nash, directed by American Blues Theater Co-Founding Member Ed Blatchford, now through September 27 at the Greenhouse Theater Center, 2257 N. Broadway fans had plenty of reasons to celebrate this year, with dozens of shows having opened since January, hundreds of actors having made their debuts, and many more having returned to the stage for critically acclaimed performances. Not all news was good though, as we also suffered a loss of an incredible amount of talent. Below, BroadwayWorld sends a fond farewell to those who passed away in 2014.

Robert Bills Productions will present THE ODD COUPLE (female version), Neil Simon's 1985 adaptation of his Tony Award-winning Broadway comedy, at Greenhouse Theater Center, 2257 N. Lincoln Ave, running now through Sunday, November 10. 'Felix' and 'Oscar' are now 'Florence' and 'Olive' in this riotously funny play centered around two wildly mismatched roommates living together in New York City. Robert Bills directs. Woodie King Jr's New Federal Theatre kicks off its 44th season with the first play of 'The Ed Bullins Project' - two revivals from his 'Twentieth Century Cycle of Plays' - IN THE WINE TIME, to be followed by The Fabulous Miss Marie this spring. In The Wine Time, directed by Mansoor Najee-ullah, will begin performances October 25th at Castillo Theater (543 West 42nd Street), continuing through November 24th. Opening Night is set for Thursday November 7th.

Cygnet Theatre will continue its 10th Anniversary Season by presenting the San Diego Premiere of August Wilson's Gem of the Ocean. The first play, chronologically, in Wilson's epic Century Cycle, Gem of the Ocean is set to perform now through February 24th, 2013, at Cygnet's Old Town Theatre. Each night during the 2011 Broadway revival of THE NORMAL HEART, Larry Kramer, the author of the script, stood outside the theatre to distribute a letter to members of the audience.

Evangeline, the Queen of Make-Believe - The songbook of Grammy Award winners David Hidalgo and Louie Perez of Los Lobos drives Evangeline, the Queen of Make-Believe, a multimedia play with music that takes its title from the group's 1985 rocker "Evangeline." Evangeline, a devoted daughter by day, a Hollywood go-go dancer by night. A journey of self discovery by a young Chicana, whose neighborhood roots and make-believe world collide when she experiences the West Side art scene and the music of the Sunset Strip, is set against the 1968 student walkouts in East L.A. and the fight for equal education and civil rights. Two performances have been added to Bootleg and About Productions' show, Friday, June 1 and Saturday, June 2, both at 7 pm.

'Fair is fair!' That is the rebel-rousing cry of sultry 18 year-old Billie Jean Davy and her band of teenage misfits; on the run from the law and in search of truth, justice and a kick-ass haircut! It's the summer of 1985, Corpus Christi, Texas. Local bully, rich-kid, Hubie Pyatt, has maliciously vandalized the brand new Honda Scooter belonging to dirt poor Binx Davey: a purchase made by the 16 year-old trailer park resident with insurance money left to him by his dead father. (Are you in tears yet?!) It's up to big sis, Billie, to convince Hubie's sleazeoid father to cough up the $608 for repairs. Fair is fair, after all! Disney Theatrical Productions welcomed Oscar, Tony, Grammy and Emmy Award winner Whoopi Goldberg (moderator of ABC's THE VIEW) to the cast of Broadway's landmark musical event, THE LION KING - for one night only - on Thursday, January 14 at the Minskoff Theatre (200 West 45th Street, NYC). Goldberg appeared in a series of surprise cameos throughout the 8pm performance. The appearance marks a return for Goldberg to the legit stage and her Lion King roots, having originated the voice of Shenzi the Hyena more than 15 years ago in the 1994 Disney animated feature.

On May 15th David Brendan Hopes play 'Edward The King' kicked off Gayfest NYC. The play features Jo Ann Cunningham, Chad Hoeppner, Megan McQuillan, Patrick Porter and Brian Charles Rooney. It is directed by Sidney J. Burgoyne and runs at the TBG Arts Center, 312 West 36th Street, 3rd Floor through May 24th.

The Wedding Singer plays its pre-Broadway engagement at The 5th Avenue Theatre in Seattle from January 31 - February 19, 2006.
