Cal Shakes' 2016 Season to Feature 'MUCH ADO,' FENCES & More

California Shakespeare Theater today announced plans for its 2016 season, which will feature one of Shakespeare's sassiest romantic comedies, a Pulitzer Prize-winning story of one family's struggle to achieve the American Dream, and an outrageously funny comedy of manners by George Bernard Shaw. The season, which was selected by outgoing Artistic Director Jonathan Moscone, will include one final Shakespearean title to be selected by incoming Artistic Director Eric Ting later this fall. Actors' Shakespeare Project Sets New Venues, Casts for 2015-16 Season

Actors' Shakespeare Project (ASP) today revealed new venues and  casting for the next two productions for the 2015/16 Season, Affairs of the Heart. The company's 12th season opened with the  tragedy in Othello, now playing until October 25 at The Modern Theatre at Suffolk University. Next ASP explores romance in The Winter's Tale, war and strife in Richard II, and comedy in The School for Scandal.  "ASP strives to present bold themes-the kind audiences not only expect, they demand of us," says Artistic Director Allyn Burrows. New Hampshire Theatre Project's Youth Repertory Company will present The Winter's Tale by William Shakespeare on May 27-June 5, 2016 at West End Studio Theatre in Portsmouth NH. The Winter's Tale is one of Shakespeare's most diverse and divisive plays, exploring themes of faith, trust, family, love, friendship, fidelity, and maybe most importantly, time.  A tragedy of kings and queens in the first half crashes directly into a floral comedy with shepherds, shepherdesses, and clowns in the second. The link between these two worlds seems to be nothing but a 'wide gap of time,' but discoveries are made and truths are revealed.  (more...)

Seattle Shakespeare Company's Artistic Director George Mount announced plans for the company's 2016-2017 season that includes a world premiere adaptation, pairings of plays exploring love and jealousy, and everyone's favorite fairy-filled fantasy. The plays included in the season are The Winter's Tale, Medea, the two-part epic Bring Down the House, and A Midsummer Night's Dream. The company previously announced its selection for the free Wooden O summer park shows: Hamlet and Love's Labour's Lost. In the spring of 2017 Seattle Shakespeare Company will tour The Taming of the Shrew and Romeo and Juliet to schools and venues across the state. (more...)
