BWW Review: THE LITTLE MERMAID at Old National Center
by Melissa Hall - Feb 9, 2017

Like so many others, I grew up watching Disney's The Little Mermaid. The lyrics of those songs are ingrained on my brain to this day. So seeing Broadway Across America's current production of the story is bittersweet. It was fun to revisit the characters, but it was impossible not to compare the musical with the movie as I watched. BWW Review: Seagull Project's CHERRY ORCHARD Still Shines Amidst Some Confusion
by Jay Irwin - Feb 6, 2017

Mounting something as complex as a Chekov play is not an easy undertaking and should only be handled by professionals. Luckily, in Seattle, we have The Seagull Project who has been tackling these works the last few years including the absolutely incredible "Three Sisters" they put up a few years back. But as crystal clear the intent of the characters in their current production of "The Cherry Orchard" at ACT is, thanks to the stellar performances and direction, I wonder if the translation they chose isn't doing them any favors as I was never quite certain who many of these people were. (more...)

BWW Review: VANYA AND SONIA AND MASHA AND SPIKE at Sioux Empire Community Theatre
by Ruth Sturm - Feb 24, 2017

There is a lot to enjoy in this show regardless of your familiarity with Chekhov. But most of the depth of the play - the references to cherry orchards, the play within the play - is based on your knowledge of the Russian playwright. Basically, this is at its heart a show for theatre nerds. (more...)

BWW Review: STUPID F*CKING BIRD Tackles Modern Milieu in Australian Premiere at Metanoia Theatre
by Brodie Paparella - Feb 20, 2017

The saying goes that there are no new ideas. Originality in the age of mass-production and population density and exponential destruction of every natural muse known to great artists, has been shot mid-flight. Originality was shot through the heart, plummeted into an oil-drenched ocean, washed upon a beach of glass and needles only to be eaten by an ice addict and made into a meme. (more...)
