There's not much one can say when you look at the resume of Ben Vereen. I have to admit I thought the email to interview Mr. Vereen was a hoax or a vile trick someone was playing on me. Now the reason I say this is because he is one of my idols and reasons I studied musical theatre in college and left to go to NYC to work professionally. We are familiar with his work with Bob Fosse as the Leading Player in PIPPIN and as Judas in JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR but Mr. Vereen still continues to give us the ole razzle dazzle on the stage and on the screen. He's starred in 9 Broadway shows, has received the coveted Antionette Perry Award (The Tony), a Drama Desk Award, and a Prism Award. Nominated for an NAACP Image Award, starred in 30 plus movies and television shows, and has a huge crossover career. Ben Vereen hit the scene in Martha Graham's PRODIGAL SON in 1965 and he's been working ever since. I had the esteemed pleasure to sit and talk about his illustrious career and the current projects he's working on currently. (more...)

The House Theatre of Chicago Announce The Return of The Holiday Classic THE NUTCRACKER

The House Theatre of Chicago once again brings holiday cheer for the whole family with its seventh annual engagement of the all-original, ballet-free The Nutcracker playing at The Chopin Theatre upstairs theatre, 1543 W. Division, November 4 - December 30. Company Members Jake Minton, Phillip Klapperich, Kevin O'Donnell and Tommy Rapley created the adaptation. Company Member Rapley reprises his role as director and choreographer of the holiday production based on E.T.A. Hoffmann's story. CHARLOTTE'S WEB is the stage adaptation of E.B. White's classic story. Adapted by Joseph Robinette, it was originally published as a play in 1983 and enjoyed Broadway run in 1989 after the addition of musical numbers by Charles Strouse. Zach Theatre's production directed by Nat Miller goes back to Robinette's original script, minus the broadway numbers, and infuses it with its own down-home charm. (more...)

 It's time for the Royal Winter Ball, but Cinderella won't be going because she has no clothes or shoes; or will she?  Join Columbia Children's Theatre (CCT)-the Midlands' only professional theatre for families and young audiences-as they present this delightful musical adaptation of the age-old rags to riches tale Cinderella, December  3 -11.  The production's run opens on Saturday, December 3 with a special Breakfast with Santa at 9:00 a.m. followed by the show at 10:30 a.m. Tickets for the breakfast and show package are $15.00 for children and adults. When the Cleveland Ballet left this area for San Jose, California, in 2000, it is rumored that the organization was over one-million dollars in debt. Lots of fingers were pointed as to why the deficit existed, but one thing is for sure, there will always be, it the minds of those who saw it, one lasting legacy of Dennis Nahat and his reign as the company's Artistic Director. Provincetown Theater Announces 2nd Annual New Year's Gala

The celebrated Provincetown Theater's Annual Gala, "The Rat Pack Is Back" returns over the course of three nights, featuring a Vegas-style musical revue, to benefit The Provincetown Theater Foundation, beginning December 29 and continuing December 30 and January 1 (no performance on December 31).  Each evening will feature noted Cape Cod performers and special guest stars, including Bobby Wetherbee, Larry Marsland, Peter Donnelly and Thirsty Burlington.  The theater and its lobby will provide old Vegas atmospherics, with special scenic designs that echo the classic Caesars Palace interiors, plus Vegas Showgirls and Showboys.
