Today, UC Irvine Jack and Shanaz Langson Institute and Museum of California Art (Langson IMCA) announced six new acquisitions that entered the museum's growing collection in 2021. The Museum of Arts and Design celebrates the craft of artist-made jewelry with MAD About Jewelry 2020, virtual shows and sales of more than 40 of the world's most innovative contemporary jewelry artists. Small groups of artists will show their work on the museum's website, then every two weeks, the artists will rotate and jewelry by a new group will be featured for sale.  In mid-November, MAD About Jewelry 2020 will culminate with a presentation of work from all the 2020 artists, including new work, online through the end of the year.

Wynn Handman, the famed New York acting teacher and Artistic Director of The American Place Theatre, died at home April 11, 2020 of Covid-19 related pneumonia. He was 97.

The Museum of Arts and Design (MAD) had a private opening of their new exhibition, 45 Stories in Jewelry: 1947 to Now on February 12th. Artists, curators, and collectors were invited to preview MAD's unique, world-class collection of studio and contemporary art jewelry. Selected by an advisory committee to represent significant developments in art jewelry since the mid-century, 45 Stories in Jewelry showcases jewelry artists for whom anything can serve as inspirationa?"from a material or found object to the pressing social and political issues of our time. In 2008, MAD created a dedicated jewelry gallery with forty-five open storage drawers. 45 Stories in Jewelry debuts the redesign of these drawers, contextualizing the work within history to deepen viewers' understanding of the field.

'On a personal level, to me, the piece represented the lineage: a student hears a teachers' voice and is forever changed by it,' Vangeline described. 'A butoh student must be lost to be found, walk in the dark, dive deeply inside themselves, and, as Tatsumi Hijikata said, 'pluck the darkness from their own flesh.'

For the first time, the British Museum has co-curated an exhibition with partner museums from around the UK to display and then tour contemporary artworks from its Prints and Drawings collection. Pushing paper: contemporary drawing from 1970 to now will illustrate how artists experiment with the power of paper to express their ideas, pushing the medium in new directions. It will highlight the breadth and quality of the Museum's collection of modern art, as well as its global scope. The exhibition of 56 works will showcase the astonishing diversity of contemporary drawing over the last fifty years, with graphic work by artists such as David Hockney, Rachel Whiteread, Sol LeWitt, Anish Kapoor, Tracey Emin and Grayson Perry, as well as exciting works by emerging artists like Hamid Sulaiman and Rachel Duckhouse. Many of these pieces will be on public display for the first time, including work by Gwen Hardie, Jonathan Callan and Jan Vanriet.

The San Diego Symphony's 2018 Bayside Jazz Series continued with 'Godfathers of Latin Jazz,' a concert inspired by trumpeter Dizzy Gillespie's merger of bebop and Afro-Cuban rhythms. Dizzy had wanted something new for a 1947 Carnegie Hall concert, 'One of those tom toms' he said, thinking of the different hand-struck drums played by Latin percussionist Machito and others. To get the effect he wanted he added Cuban conguero Chano Pozo.

Canton Museum of Art (CMA) presents a new exhibition African American Masterpieces: Collection Highlights on view now through March 4, 2018. In conjunction with an exhibition of woodcarvings by Elijah Pierce, this exhibition showcases paintings and ceramics created between 1945 and 2010.
