INTO THE BEAUTIFUL NORTH Extends Through 11/20

The Central Works 2016 Season closing production of Karen Zacarias' a new play Into the Beautiful North, has extended and must close November 20 (originally scheduled to close Nov. 13). Central Works' first partnership with the National New Play Network was met with a tremendous response from the press and audiences alike. Described at its premiere as possessing the "alchemy of inspired satire, turned into a laugh-filled theatrical experience" and "never allowing the humor to blind us to the plight of its characters...".  Into the Beautiful North is based on the novel by Pulitzer Prize finalist Luis Alberto Urrea and inspired by the classic Hollywood western The Magnificent Seven. The folks who gave you Manhattan Monologue Slam are going national with The National Monologue Slam, the latest creation from the minds of Philip and Robert Galinsky.  The brothers have been serving the acting community since 2003 with their groundbreaking monthly competition The Manhattan Monologue Slam, an opportunity for emerging actors to perform for industry professionals each and every month by providing a panel of judges consisting of agents, casting directors, producers and the like, offering valuable advice and critiques of the performers.   The Galinsky brothers have worked with actors that have gone on to such films as 2012, August Rush, Righteous Kill among others, and television shows including "Orange Is The New Black," "The Good Wife," "Nurse Jackie," "Law & Order," "Late Night with Conan O'Brian," among others. This Spring Washington Ensemble Theatre (WET) will give Henrik Ibsen's beloved play A Doll's House a fresh new makeover in Cherdonna's Doll's House, a wild and dynamic collaboration with and featuring Cherdonna Shinatra (aka Jody Kuehner), the 2015 Stranger Genius Award winner for Performance. Playing April 28 - May 15, 2017 in the Studio Theater at 12th Avenue Arts, Cherdonna's Doll's House follows the story of Nora, a married woman and mother who struggles to discover her true self or lack thereof. Cherdonna, who is part bio-drag queen, part contemporary dancer, and part performance artist, will celebrate, dissect, and illuminate this text through her own unique feminist lens, scouring Ibsen, Nora, Torvald, and the whole gang for contemporary meaning.
