Full casting has been announced for Talawa Theatre Company's restaging of the National Theatre production of Errol John's MOON ON A RAINBOW SHAWL. Directed by Artistic Director Michael Buffong, the production welcomes back acclaimed actress Martina Laird (Casualty and Shameless) as Sophie, Jude Akuwudike (The Faith Machine at the Royal Court) as Charlie and Ray Emmet Brown (A Raisin in the Sun at the Royal Exchange) as Prince. Two River Theater, under the leadership of Artistic Director John Dias and Managing Director Michael Hurst, is proud to announce that the Doris Duke Charitable Foundation has awarded the theater a generous grant of $125,000 to support its upcoming production of Be More Chill, a new musical written by Joe Iconis and Joe Tracz, with choreography by Chase Brock and direction by Stephen Brackett. The spectacular production is presented by The China Arts & Entertainment Group (CAEG), a creative enterprise under the administration of the Ministry of Culture for the People's Republic of China. Since opening on Broadway in 1987, Stephen Sondheim's Into the Woods has become a musical theatre staple, having been performed in venues big and small all over the world. Based on some of the most enduring fairytales ever told, Into the Woods gives a musical voice to such beloved characters as Cinderella, Little Red Riding Hood, Jack, and countless others, intertwining their stories into one theatrical masterpiece. Though much of the musical is based on the stories that we heard at bedtime, many of the tales have been altered [spoiler alert!] to create a cohesive plot. For the sixth year, Pontine Theatre presentss a host of New Vaudeville performers at its annual WEST-FEST. Performances are scheduled for 2pm, 26-30 December at Pontine's West End Studio Theatre located at 959 Islington Street in Portsmouth. WEST-FEST is modeled on the Phyzgig Festival which was founded in Portland Maine in 1997. It's a family-oriented festival that chases away the blues with performances featuring magic, mirth, and mayhem. Tickets are $15 and may be purchased online at www.pontine.org. Two River Theater, under the leadership of Artistic Director John Dias and Managing Director Michael Hurst, announces the lineup of productions for its 2014/15 Season. The year will include world-premiere plays and musicals that have been developed at the theater, including Your Blues Ain't Sweet Like Mine, a new play written and directed by Tony Award-winner Ruben Santiago-Hudson; and Be More Chill, a musical by Joe Iconis and Joe Tracz, adapted from the novel by Ned Vizzini and directed by Scott Ellis.
