NEVERMORE: The Imaginary Life and Mysterious Death of Edgar Allan Poe is a Canadian musical that was written and composed by Jonathan Christenson which follows the rather dismal life and internal struggles of Edgar Allan Poe that later on inspired his work as an author. The script contains references to both his poems and short stories. While most of the script dramatizes true events in his life, other aspects are entirely fictitious. The musical was originally produced at the Catalyst Theatre in Edmonton, Alberta and went on to be performed across Canada, and at the Barbican Theater in London, and the New Victory Theatre in NYC. The current production now playing at Austin Playhouse is a regional premiere. (more...)

Andrew Lloyd Webber's smash hit musical School of Rock - The Musical is entering its second smashing year on Broadway with a new class of cast members. Comedic actor Eric Petersen just assumed the role of wannabe rock star, Dewey Finn, last night, November 7, 2016. The Kid Band, who perform Andrew Lloyd Webber's score live at every performance, now includes new cast members Rachel Katzke as Katie the bass player and Walden Sullivan as Lawrence the keyboardist, along with returning cast members, Brandon Niederauer as Zack the guitarist and Raghav Mehrotra as Freddy on drums. Additionally, Olivia Chun assumes the role of super serious band manager Summer, Steven Booth assumes the role of Ned, Annabelle Wachtel plays Marcy, Terrance Bell, Jr. plays Mason, Chloe Bryanwill plays Madison, and Ellie Kim joins the cast as a swing. BWW Review: Juilliard Opera Takes FLIGHT in the Airport from Hell

Like a morsel of Proust's madeleine soaking in a cup of tea, the setting of Juilliard Opera's new production of Jonathan Dove's opera FLIGHT took me back to another age, and Eero Saarinen's modernistic TWA (now Jet Blue) Terminal at Kennedy Airport in New York. But the only thing retro about the evening itself is a return to a golden age, with the excellent performance of the cast and orchestra, under conductor Steven Osgood and the direction of James Darrah. Preview days for Kaminski Auctions Thanksgiving sale were very well attended which was an indication of good things to come for the annual auction. Old faces and friends visiting the preview, plus 1700 visiting online and over 30% of them new users to the site brought a worldwide audience to add to the excitement of the sale. A collection of Richard F. Outcault (American, 1863-1928) 'Buster Brown' Sunday comic strip original art works that had descended through the family of the artist brought the most excitement to the day. Buster Brown was a comic strip character created in 1902 by Richard F. Outcault and was adopted as the symbol of a children's shoe company called the Brown Shoe Company in 1904. In the early 20th century Buster Brown and his pit bull terrier' Tige' were well known to the American public. (more...)

BWW Review: Celebrating the 21st Anniversary of The Yorkville Nutcracker with DANCES PATRELLE

With the holidays right around the corner, many folks are making their way to the theater to see a Nutcracker performance- which has become a favorite holiday tradition, bringing families together for an intergenerational event. This season is no different. On the evening of Friday, December 9th, I had the opportunity to see Dances Patrelle present The Yorkville Nutcracker at The Kaye Playhouse located on the campus of Hunter College. Special guests included Abi Stafford, Craig Hall, Maximilien Baud, and Therese Wendler of New York City Ballet. In addition to all this, students from the city's prestigious schools such as Alvin Ailey, Ballet Hispanico, JKO School at ABT, and the New York Theatre Ballet School to name a few, participated to make this a must-see production.
