Rooftop Films Returns to New Design High School with THE GENIUS AND THE OPERA SINGER

On Saturday, May 27th Rooftop Films will present the U.S. Premiere of Vanessa Stockley's The Genius and the Opera Singer, a nonfiction portrait of an embattled mother-daughter duo (92 and 55-years-old, respectively) living together in a Rent-controlled West Village apartment. Set against the backdrop of a changing neighborhood, Stockley captures the pair's volatile relationship with unfettered access and intimacy. A special one-night-only edition of Concert for America: Stand Up, Sing Out! will be presented this summer at The 5th Avenue Theatre on Thursday, July 6 at 7:00 PM. A star-studded concert of songs, comedy and commentary, the Seattle edition of Concert for America will feature world class performers including Tony Award-winner Roger Bart (You're a Good Man Charlie Brown), Broadway star Sierra Boggess (The Little Mermaid) and Tony nominee and longtime 5th Avenue Theatre favorite Kerry Butler, who originated the role of Penny Pingleton in Hairspray at The 5th and on Broadway. Seattle's critically acclaimed Spectrum Dance Theater, Naomi Morgan, who starred as Mimi in Rent at The 5th and Caety Sagoian (Jasper in Deadland at The 5th) will also perform. Broadway's MAMMA MIA! Comes to Thrasher-Horne Center

Benny Andersson and Bjorn Ulvaeus' MAMMA MIA!, the smash hit musical based on the songs of ABBA, plays the Thrasher-Horne Center on June 20th, 2017 as a part of its final farewell tour. This performance will be the hugely successful musical's last Florida date, as well as the tenth to last engagement before the casts takes its final bows. I'm always cautiously optimistic in seeing a regional production of Jonathan Larson's Rent as I am a Renthead of MANY years. The thing to remember, obviously, is art has diffeRent interpretations. It is interesting to see the diffeRent elucidations of the choreography, the varied choices the actors make, the Director's vision, et cetera. I can proudly say that The Gateway Playhouse's incarnation of the Tony and Pulitzer winner, which is kicking off a very busy Summer season for the darling Bellport venue, does not disappoint. On May 19, a refreshed version of FIVE GUYS NAMED MOE premiered at the Ebony Repertory Theatre in Los Angeles. Rush Orchestra Pit Seats Available for RENT in St. Louis

The Fabulous Fox Theatre announced today that seats in the orchestra pit section will be available for $23 for every performance of Rent, the Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award-winning musical. The $23 tickets are available for in-person purchases at the Fabulous Fox Box Office, located at 531 North Grand Blvd., St. Louis, MO 63103, on the day of each performance only, two hours prior to the show. The $23 tickets are available for cash only purchases and are limited to two tickets per person. The price of the ticket includes a $3.00 facility fee. (more...)
