BWW Review: GOOD GRIEF World Premiere at the Kirk Douglas Theatre

As a way to celebrate International Women's Day this year, I attended the World Premiere of Ngozi Anyanwu's new play GOOD GRIEF at Center Theatre Group's Kirk Douglas Theatre. The production is directed by Patricia McGregor, with Anyanwu performing as the lead character, Nkechi. This is the first of Anyanwu's plays to receive a full professional production with great techniical credits including an impressive movable set designed by Stephanie Kerley Schwartz, costumes designed by Karen Perry, lighting designed by Pablo Santiago, with sound design by Adam Phalen. The cast features, in alphabetical order, Dayo Ade, Wade Allain-Marcus, Ngozi Anyanwu, Marcus Henderson, Omoze Idehenre, Carla Renata and Mark Jude Sullivan. (more...)

the Princeton Symphony Orchestra (PSO)  BRAVO! Masterclass features violin virtuoso Philippe Graffin. The masterclass is open to the general public, and will be held at Hamilton House on the campus of Westminster Choir College. Attendees will observe four violin students as they are coached on artistry and performance technique. Kathleen Tagg will accompany participants on the piano. The students are Kristy Chen (West Windsor-Plainsboro High School North), Dallas Noble (homeschooled), Joseph Jojo Prentice (Princeton High School), and Demi Fang (Princeton University). The masterclass is presented in partnership with Westminster Conservatory, the community music school of Westminster College of the Arts of Rider University. Hal Linden and Ryan Ochoa Will Make Their Way to the Big Screen in 'The Samuel Project'

Emmy winner and Golden Globe nominee Hal Linden, star of the long running series 'Barney Miller,' and Ryan Ochoa, star of the hit Disney series 'Pair of Kings' have joined the cast of the indie film 'The Samuel Project' which will begin principal photography in San Diego this week. The film, helmed by Marc Fusco, the former Steven Spielberg assistant who directed the comedy 'My Uncle Rafael' and heist film 'Stealing Time,' tells the story of a teen (Ochoa) who gets to know his grandfather Samuel (Linden) when he makes him the subject of an animated art project for school. With dreams of becoming a professional artist, the young man discovers that his grandpa, a Jewish dry cleaner, was heroically saved from Nazi capture in Germany by a young woman when he was a boy. California Symphony Presents the World Premiere of TANGLE EYE, 5/7

 Music Director Donato Cabrera leads the California Symphony in the world premiere of the newly-commissioned cello concerto, Tangle Eye, by its current Young American Composer-in-Residence, Dan Visconti, with soloist Inbal Segev on Sunday, May 7 at 4 pm at the Lesher Center for the Arts in Walnut Creek. The Israeli-American cellist, now based in New York, is a champion of contemporary music, and performs as a soloist with a Bay Area orchestra for the first time in the Orchestra's May 7 season finale. This is Visconti's final work as a Young American Composer-in-Residence with the Orchestra; his residency ends this year. The California Symphony also performs Bruckner's Symphony No. 6 for the first time in its 30-year history, and the program opens with Beethoven's Coriolan Overture. (more...)
