A Noise Within (ANW), the acclaimed classical repertory theatre company, revisits CHARLES DICKENS' thrilling GREAT EXPECTATIONS with the West Coast premiere of a powerful stage adaptation by Neil Bartlett opening Saturday, October 30 and closing Sunday, December 19, 2010 (previews begin Saturday, October 23). ANW Co-Founders and Co-Artistic Directors Julia Rodriguez-Elliott and Geoff Elliott co-direct this production - which features original music by noted composer Doug Newell - based on Dickens' masterful novel. Bartlett was also the adaptor of A Noise Within's 2008-09 season favorite Oliver Twist. This marks the second time Rodriguez-Elliott and Elliott have co-directed Great Expectations at A Noise Within, the first produced during the 1995-96 season, winning numerous awards. (more...)

Included in the audiobook line is a new recording of Tim O'Brien's Pulitzer finalist, landmark collection about the soldiers who fought in the War in Vietnam, The Things They Carried, narrated by “Breaking Bad” star Bryan Cranston. Gateway Festival Orchestra Launches 47th Season at Washington University 7/11

The Gateway Festival Orchestra will launch its 47th season of free Sunday-evening concerts at Washington University July 11 with 'Music for the Night,' a program of works on nocturnal themes. Musical director James Richards will conduct the performance, which will open with the 'witches' Sabbath' scene from Modest Mussorgsky's Night on Bald Mountain (1867). Next up will be American composer Arthur Foote's A Night Piece (1918), featuring solo flutist Jan Scott, professor emerita at Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville. Concluding the program will be a medley of works from Andrew Lloyd Webber's musical Phantom of the Opera (1986) and from Johannes Brahms' Orchestral Serenade No. 1 in D Major (1857). (more...)

ERS Benefit Announces $30 Balcony Seats

Elevator Repair Service (ERS) is hosting their spring benefit on Monday, May 3rd, 2010. The company is currently finishing the third play in a trilogy of critically acclaimed plays based on great American novels by William Faulkner, F. Scott Fitzgerald, and Ernest Hemingway. This event will celebrate ERS's success with Frances McDormand (Burn after Reading, Fargo), Lili Taylor ('Six Feet Under'), Fred Armisen ('Saturday Night Live'), Frankie Faison ('The Wire'), and ERS company members in a one night only performance of loved, banned and mythologized American fiction. Authors include Edith Wharton, Willa Cather, and Edgar Allan Poe. Readings will be accompanied by ERS's unique signature sound design. (more...)
