Pittsburgh Public Theater's leader, Ted Pappas, to Depart After the 2017/2018 Season

For the past 17 years Pittsburgh Public Theater has been led by impresario and consummate showman Ted Pappas. His aesthetic has defined the company, his business acumen has kept the organization remarkably debt-free, his exacting standards have established The Public as one of the finest regional theaters in America, and his tireless presence at numerous performances have made him the face of Pittsburgh Public Theater. Mr. Pappas this week announced that in 18 months he will leave the company, at the conclusion of the 2017/2018 season. During his final season he will direct productions of Peter Shaffer's Equus, Stephen Sondheim's A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum, and William Shakespeare's Hamlet. (more...)

The nonprofit AT&T Performing Arts Center and the City of Dallas Office of Cultural Affairs announced today that single tickets for Prism Co: Medea Myth: Love's Beginning will go on sale Thursday, March 9 at 10 a.m. Jeff Colangelo and Katy Tye, two rising Dallas artists and founders of Prism Co., will present their aesthetic choreography and movement for 12 performances beginning Thursday, April 13 through Sunday, April 23, 2017 at the Studio Theater in the downtown Dallas Arts District. Imago Theatre's mentor Jacques Lecoq, a theatre icon who influenced the world on movement in the performing arts, taught a concept called  "the balance of the stage."  In 1998, Jerry Mouawad, Artistic Co-Director of Imago Theatre, designed a deck suspended in a black void three feet off the stage floor that tips and sways in an abyss. Rebel and Misfits Productions is thrilled to announce 'Sex with Strangers,' its first project in a new series called 'An Intimate Theatre Project.' The provocative and timely play comes from Laura Eason (House of Cards) and will be directed by New York City's Michelle Bossy. The event runs March 30 through April 15 at a private home in the Central West End (4632 McPherson Avenue). Local director/actor Christie Vela returns to direct for the company after making her acting debut for Second Thought last summer in A Kid Like Jake. In these rare appearances outside of Europe, Antonacci will perform "Elle," the distraught character at the heart of the opera and one of the soprano's most celebrated portrayals, along with a program of French art songs in the intimate, 299-seat Dianne and Tad Taube Atrium Theater at the Diane B.
