BWW Review: Juilliard Opera Takes FLIGHT in the Airport from Hell

Like a morsel of Proust's Madeleine soaking in a cup of tea, the setting of Juilliard Opera's new production of Jonathan Dove's opera FLIGHT took me back to another age, and Eero Saarinen's modernistic TWA (now Jet Blue) Terminal at Kennedy Airport in New York. But the only thing retro about the evening itself is a return to a golden age, with the excellent performance of the cast and orchestra, under conductor Steven Osgood and the direction of James Darrah. Roanoke Children's Theatre Starts Conversation on Teen Pregnancy wth BABYLAND

In the early 1990s, Roanoke City had the highest teen pregnancy rate in the state of Virginia. Roanoke City has seen incredible progress over the last 20 years and in 2014, a big decrease in teen pregnancy put Roanoke City as 14th in the state out of approximately 130 cities/counties. Roanoke Children's Theatre will shed more light on this issue facing teens with the upcoming production of BABYLAND. There will be public performances of BABYLAND on February 3 and 9, 2017. Performances will be held in the Black Box Theatre at the Jefferson Center (541 Luck Avenue SW). (more...)
