The chill of autumn is slowly leaving for the cold of winter, but record numbers of north Georgia theatre goers are gathering around the warm glow of the Gainesville Theatre Alliance's production of MARY POPPINS. GTA, now in its 36th season, opened to sellout crowds for the stage production of P.L. Travers' classic story. The production has been extended for a third week of performances, now running through Nov. 21, and with a week and a half to go, MARY POPPINS has already broken GTA ticket and revenue records. Debra Whitfield directs a cast that features Jim DiMunno Tim Dowd, Michael Engberg, Amy Handra, Darrell Purcell, Joshua Quat, Stewart A. Schneck, and Jenn Susi. This limited run continues through September 21st only. Olympics Über Alles will have scenic and lighting design by Duane Pagano with costume design by Janice O'Donnell and sound and projections design by Paul Bourgeois. Austin Pendleton is set to play William Shakespeare in Abingdon Theatre Company's Off-Broadway premiere of Robert Brustein's THE LAST WILL, which he will also direct, beginning Friday, April 5 in the June Havoc Theatre (312 West 36th Street). Brustein's final installment of his trilogy examining the life of William Shakespeare, THE LAST WILL is set to open on April 17, with performances through May 5. OBIE Award-winner Austin Pendleton replaces actor Peter Cameron who has left the production. (more...)
