Musicals Tonight! replaces COME SUMMER with Little Mary Sunshine Performances March 4-16 at the Lion Theatre on Theatre Row (New York, NY) Musicals Tonight! the Obie-winning company dedicated to the revival of neglected musicals has announced a change in the 2013-14 Season. Will Holt's Come Summer will now be replaced by Rick Besoyan's Little Mary Sunshine with performances, March 4 -16, directed by Thomas Sabella-Mills, with music direction by James Stenborg. With book, music, and lyrics by Rick Besoyan, and billed as 'a musical about an old operetta'- Little Mary Sunshine gently spoofs such old-time favorites like Rose Marie and Naughty Marietta - but has a personality all its own. The plot is a little bit of everything: Colorado Rangers led by stalwart Captain Jim; the lovely Mary Sunshine, her 'naughty' maid Nancy; a chorus of giggling schoolgirls and the ominous but benevolent Indian chief. Pia Zadora was arrested this weekend on charges of domestic violence after a tiff with her teenage son over his bedtime, according to an update by the Associated Press. BroadwayWorld reported yesterday that the Broadway and cabaret star had been arrested on suspicion of domestic battery and coercion on June 1, 2013, at her home in a suburb of Las Vegas, Nevada. It was a pleasure to return to Kritzerland Sunday July 6 for its 47th show saluting Off-Broadway shows: Kritzerland Goes Off-Broadway. Featured were stalwart hits: Hair, Ruthless!, Little Mary Sunshine, Dames at Sea, Falsettos, The Fantasticks and more recent hits such as Floyd Collins, Jason Robert Brown's The Last Five Years and Dogfight. With Bruce Kimmel as host, in dandy form as usual with his amazing trivia notes in between numbers, and sensational musical director John Boswell at the piano, the show got off to a rousing start with young Brennley Brown belting out 'Born to Entertain' from Ruthless! Also on the bill for the evening were the wonderful: Robert Yacko, Madison Claire Parks, Kim Huber, young folks Jenna Lee Rosen, Sami Staitman and special guest stars Jason Graae and Rita McKenzie.
