Even before they hit the stage for Lipscomb University Theatre's production of Hairspray, it's pretty clear that cast members Renna Taylor, Nicolette Carney, Justin Boyd, Darius Cal and Carolanne Deaton truly are 'the nicest kids in town.' Bringing the hit musical to life for Nashville audiences, which will include a large contingent of alumni in town for homecoming (Hairspray runs November 3-6 in Collins Auditorium on the David Lipscomb University campus), the large ensemble of more than 40 actors are hard at work, sharpening their skills, running lines, rehearsing like it's nobody's business and immersing themselves in plenty of 1960s pop culture and nostalgia. On Sunday December 22 the amazing Cortes Alexander presented his Thou Swell Noel to a packed house at Sterling's Upstairs at the Federal. There was an electric four-piece band with musical director Norman Ludwin on bass, David Arana at the piano, Mark Converse on drums and Paul Landry on guitar.Paul's 10-year old son Zeut Landry was a very special guest who accompanied Alexander on a Cajon Drum Box during his beautiful composition 'Marguerite'. Old Globe's First Wives Club is Broadway Bound
by Don Grigware - Aug 5, 2009

From film to musical stage: though hardly original, it seems to be the steadiest solution to filling the large theaters of The Great White Way. 10 years ago the Old Globe hosted the musicalization of The Full Monty, which translated quite appealingly to the stage...and now so does the new effort from Rupert Holmes and Holland, Dozier, Holland: The First Wives Club, so popular with movie audiences in 1996. BroadwayGirlNYC: Unpredictable Live Theatre
by BroadwayGirl NYC - Apr 15, 2010

I've even been known feel nervous in the audience of a show, on behalf of the performers! But while the idea of being on-stage makes me panic, the nerves in my stomach when I'm watching someone else perform are different; they manifest as excitement: the idea that I never know what's going to happen during the show.
