BWW Blog: Lilly Erb - A Kiss Is Just A Kiss
by Guest Blogger: Lily Erb - May 4, 2016

Ah, stage kissing. It makes me nervous just thinking about it. Kissing is hard enough, but rehearsed kissing? On a stage? In front of an audience? The mere thought of it sounds downright uncomfortable. Throw in the added ingredient of high school, and you've got yourself a mess. High school is full enough of hormones and drama, and stage kissing just adds another unnecessary dosage. (more...)

BWW Blog: Maty Cameron - College Theatre: The Family I Never Knew I Had
by Guest Blogger: Maty Cameron - May 11, 2016

I joined community theatre when I was fourteen. I had played sports my entire life. Playing sports with the same group of girls my entire life was competitive, caddy, and miserable. And then I joined the theatre world. Yes, the theatre world is competitive, and there are many people who can be caddy, but it was different here: there was an entirely new aspect to this: a sense of family. They were a shoulder to cry on when I needed it, they supported me when I was in shows elsewhere, they were there. It was the first non-biological family that I had formed myself, and that was the first time I realized I would never leave theatre.  (more...)

BWW Review: KINKY BOOTS is a Fabulously Good Time that Just Might Change Your Mind
by Matt Tamanini - Feb 24, 2016

I have a confession to make; when the 2015-2016 Broadway Series was announced for Orlando's Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts, KINKY BOOTS was not one of the shows that I was most excited to see. Yeah, I knew that the show had won six Tony Awards including Best Musical; yeah, I knew that it had a positive, family-friendly message that I was excited to see on stage; and yeah, I knew that the tour cast was made up of fantastic performers, many of whom I have been a fan of for years. However, since the show opened on Broadway in 2013, directed and choreographed by Jerry Mitchell, the shiny, brightly colored costumes and the score's string of pop songs by Cyndi Lauper have always given me the sense that it was little more than a saccharine, bubble Gum musical that left audiences feeling good and tapping their toes, but didn't have the emotional or creative substance that I look for in musicals of this caliber. I mean, how could it? Just look at it; based on the show's high-energy production numbers, I assumed that the show was one of those novelties that always leaves you entertained, but rarely leaves you satisfied. (more...)

BWW Review: Hennepin Theatre Trust Brings the Charming and Funny Off-Broadway Hit BUYER AND CELLAR to Minneapolis with a Fantastic Local Creative Team and Cast of One
by Jill Schafer - Apr 8, 2016

Imagine being so wealthy and successful that you need to build a mall in your basement just to hold all of your excess stuff. Such is the situation that living legend of stage and screen Barbra Streisand has found herself in, as described in her 2010 book MY PASSION FOR DESIGN. Playwright Jonathan Tolins has taken his fascination with this idea, and Barbra herself, and turned it into a successful Off-Broadway play BUYER AND CELLAR. Hennepin Theatre Trust has brought this delightfully amusing one-man show to Minneapolis, starring the uber-talented local theater artist Sasha Andreev and directed by acclaimed director Wendy Knox of Frank Theatre. The one-person cast and many-person creative team have come together to create a wonderfully entertaining evening of theater that is funny, fantastical, chock full of pop culture references, and surprisingly touching. BWW Review: Children's Theatre Company World Premiere of DIARY OF A WIMPY KID: THE MUSICAL is Irresistible
by Jill Schafer - Apr 26, 2016

DIARY OF A WIMPY KID: THE MUSICAL - I've got an animal heart for you. Even though I have no familiarity with the successful book series or movies, I felt obliged to see Children's Theater Company's world premiere musical adaptation because of the talk about a possibly Broadway run, and producer Kevin McCollum also produced my favorite musical RENT. But all sense of obligation quickly went out the window as the show won me over with it's clever and musically diverse score, universally relatable story of a kid trying to find himself in middle school, and most of all this incredible cast of mostly Twin Cities youth. Whether you're a kid stuck in the middle (school), or a jaded grown-up, DIARY OF A WIMPY KID: THE MUSICAL is simply irresistible, and I think it's going to go far. (more...)

In December of last year, Nestl also announced that it will transition to using only cage-free eggs in all of its U.S. food products, including ice cream, within the next five years. Thinspa Celeb Spa Director Offers 9 Tips to Lose Belly Fat
by BWW News Desk - Apr 15, 2016

We all want that flat stomach but sometimes it seems as if no amount of sit-ups will whittle down that waist. Before you beat yourself up, take a step back and examine your daily regimen, advises thinspa celebrity spa director Renata De Abreu. 'Many times the culprit is gas or water retention,' De Abreu says. If you've given yourself a day or two to readjust your body by drinking plenty of water and exercising and you still don't see results, try these tips to help you say goodbye to belly fat. 1. Elimination Is Key: Let's get started with the biggest factor in losing belly fat ? elimination (pooping). Although De Abreu admits it's not the most glamorous thing to talk about, the frequency of elimination is important for weight loss and overall health. It is ideal to go at least once a day, twice is even better. 2. Watch Your Water Intake: Avoid drinking any fluids while eating which can expand the food and cause bloating. In order to digest food correctly, chew thoroughly and drink 30 minutes before or after your meal. Aside from eating, it's still vital to ... 3. Stay Hydrated: While it is important to watch your water intake, it is also vital to stay hydrated throughout the day so that your body can digest your food and flush it out. Bottom line: Drink plenty of water throughout the day. 4. Avoid Chewing Gum: When you chew Gum you are also swallowing air, hence more air and bloating in the abdominal area. 5. Study up on Digestion: Do some research on how digestion works. For example, milk is not necessary in an adult's diet after childhood. Check your tolerance for dairy and look to alternate options if needed. 6. Say No to Carbs After 8 p.m.: As your day starts to wind down be sure to keep your meals light with healthy choices such as light soups, salads and proteins. At night, it's especially important to pay attention to how you eat. 7. Abs Aren't Always the Answer: Exercise is important but make sure you are doing moves that flatten your stomach instead of build muscle. Practices such as Pilates and yoga are great ways to tone without becoming bulky. It's also important to incorporate cardio into your workout regime to help burn off any unwanted stomach fat. 8. Give Self-Massages: By incorporating self-massage into your evening regimen you will engage the lymphatic areas that are key to proper digestion. 9. Get Some Shut Eye: Getting enough sleep is one of the most important things you can do. A lack of sleep causes stress and stress causes the body to retain fat. Make sure to sleep at least 6-8 hours a night. When you sleep less than 6 hours a night, your body wakes up hungrier, making you want to eat more throughout your day. To help you wind down at the end of the day, try aromatherapy, acupuncture, warm showers or a cup of almond milk before bed. These little tricks will help reduce stress and give you a better night's sleep. Troubleshooting: If none of these tips seem to work, then ask your physician to measure your cortisone levels. When the cortisone hormone level is high it can cause salt retention resulting in body bloat. Maintenance: Once you've got the belly fat under control, make an appointment at a local thinspa for an extra push in the right direction. Non-invasive aesthetic treatments like laser liposuction and radio frequency can help to contour the body, tighten the skin and break down fatty cells. Be sure to stay active. Many people stop their regular maintenance routine once they start seeing results. Don't underestimate your body's cell memory. The body's cells have a memory of the amount of fat retention they are allowed to have. This memory takes about 6 months to erase. Make sure your body cell memory gets used to your 'new' fat intake before you fall back into your 'older' and bigger fatty retention cells. For more on living a thinspa life, email Christina Sears, Director of Marketing, at (more...)
