Dundalk Community Theatre Presents FOREVER PLAID

Dundalk Community Theatre kicks off its season with a 1950s flair.  For two nights only (September 24 & 25), DCT will hold its annual fundraiser featuring the musical Forever Plaid. Lipuma, announces a one-week extension to Company, featuring music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim and book by George Furth. The production is directed by William Brown. Company features original orchestrations by Jonathan Tunick, Orchestral Reductions by Ian Weinberger, music direction by Tom Vendafreddo and choreography by Brock Clawson. BWW Interview: Larry Raben of THE LITTLE MERMAID at Cabrillo Music Theatre

Larry Raben is an accomplished actor and director who has added his prodigious abilities to a multitude of productions around the world. In addition to acting in a command performance before Queen Elizabeth II in London and producing Sweet Charity in Argentina, Raben has also graced Cabrillo Music Theatre's stages in productions of Singin' in the Rain, The Producers, and, most recently, A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum. Raben is directing Cabrillo's summer offering this year, Disney's The Little Mermaid, which will prove to be the final production overseen by Cabrillo's longtime artistic director, Lewis Wilkenfeld. We talked with Larry not only about his plans for the show, one of Cabrillo's most challenging and ambitious productions, but also about working with the indefatigable Wilkenfeld. (more...)

BWW Review: KURTIS SIMMONS Rocks Rockwell Table and Stage in his LA Solo Cabaret Debut

On Monday August 29 actor/singer Kurtis Simmons made his solo cabaret debut at Rockwell Table and Stage to a SRO crowd of adoring fans and well-wishers. Simmons is no stranger to Los Angeles audiences, as he has appeared onstage in such popular shows as Forever Plaid and premiered his musical Hipster Sweatshop at Rockwell in the company of co-creators Kyle Puccia and Darryl Stephens, in May of this year. But, there is something special about a solo show. As good as a performer is - and Simmons is very good indeed with a phenomenal voice - there's always that question, 'Can he carry a show by himself?' The answer is a resounding 'Yes!' (more...)

Four young singers in an American close harmony group - the eponymous Plaids - were killed in a car accident just as their careers were taking off, and as their style of music was about to give way to the British Invasion of the Beatles.  The quartet are given the chance to return to earth for one night only to give the concert they never got a chance to perform.  This is the idea behind Forever Plaid, a musical revue that premiered off-Broadway in the late eighties, and which now comes to Edinburgh.
