Damn Yankees is a musical comedy with a book by George Abbott and Douglass Wallop and music and lyrics by Richard Adler and Jerry Ross. Jennifer Sunshine Appointed New Development Director of The Drama League

The Drama League announced today that Jennifer Sunshine has been appointed the company's new Development Director, beginning July 11th, 2016.  Ms. Sunshine is the final new addition to The Drama League's leadership, three of whom were announced last month: Associate Producer Travis LeMont Ballenger, Program Director Sherri Eden Barber, and Gabriel Stelian-Shanks, whose position was expanded to Executive Artistic Director.  The announcement caps a transformative season for The Drama League, in which the organization broke fundraising records, served over 3,000 artists, and celebrated its 100th anniversary. Lyric Opera of KC Names New Resident Artists

General Director and CEO Deborah Sandler today announced the selection of the inaugural class of the Resident Artists Program. They include: soprano April Martin, mezzo-soprano Samantha Gossard, tenor Casey Candebat, baritone John Viscardi and pianist Kyle Naig. They will perform in various roles throughout the 2016-17 season on the mainstage at the Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts as well as at community outreach and education events. The artists were selected after a rigorous national audition of more than 100 singers. Led by Vinson Cole, UMKC Conservatory of Music and Dance faculty member and one of the leading artists of his generation, Resident Artists Program signals the creation of the first-ever Resident Company for the Lyric Opera of Kansas City. Add to that developing four dance apps, performing in theaters, art galleries and museums, and creating visual arts exhibitions all over the world, while accumulating awards, commissions, and honors for his accomplishments, most recently a John Simon Guggenheim Fellowship and a US Artists Fund Award. Houston Grand Opera 2016/2017 Season Update

Houston Grand Opera will present four pinnacles of the operatic repertoire during the company's 2016-17 season, which also features the highly anticipated world premiere of It's a Wonderful Life by composer Jake Heggie with libretto by Gene Scheer, and much-loved comedies by Donizetti and Mozart. Artistic and Music Director Patrick Summers will lead Gotterdammerung, the final installment of Wagner's epic Ring cycle, featuring a new generation of leading Wagnerians includingSimon O'Neill as Siegfried and Christine Goerke as Brunnhilde. HGO will bring back its popular production of Gounod's Faust, with the HGO debut of international star tenor Michael Fabiano in the title role partnered by Houston favorite Ana Maria Martinez as Marguerite, along with the role debut of prominent bass-baritone Luca Pisaroni as Mephistopheles. The company will celebrate the 30thanniversary of HGO's world premiere of John Adams's pivotal Nixon in China by presenting James Robinson's production, of which HGO is a co-producer, with HGO Studio alumnus Scott Hendricks as Richard Nixon and soprano Andriana Chuchman as his wife, Pat. Patrick Summers will conduct Verdi'sthrilling Requiem, which critics at the time termed "an opera in ecclesiastical robes," with soloists Angela Meade, soprano, in her HGO debut; Sasha Cooke, alto; Alexey Dolgov, tenor; and Peixin Chen, bass; and the HGO Orchestra and Chorus.
