BWW Review: PITCH PERFECT 2 Sings a Beautiful, Hilarious Song of FriendshipBWW Review: PITCH PERFECT 2 Sings a Beautiful, Hilarious Song of Friendship
by Matt Tamanini - May 15, 2015

Making a film sequel is difficult, especially when it doesn't involve a superhero cinematic universe. In the case of following up 2012's surprise musical success PITCH PERFECT, the task was especially daunting; how do you improve upon a low-budget sleeper hit that shattered any and all conceivable expectations? The original film found success by blending what audiences have always wanted from a college comedy (mildly crude humor and young people falling in love) with what they never knew they wanted from a college comedy (a cappella singing and projectile vomit). While there is none of the latter, PITCH PERFECT 2 has the former three in spades; and despite noticeable tonal differences, the sequel is a surprisingly touching, laugh-out-loud musical party that should more than live up to the sky-high expectations of the franchise's legions of fans. The talented five-member cast, directed by Alan Shearman, certainly must be commended on their commitment and enthusiasm as they interact with the audience as second-rate circus artists and plow through their intentionally bad vaudeville routines. Just as a clown must know the correct techniques to pratfall or look ridiculous, best acts hit their intended, targeted reactions of laughter and applause when the audience's allowed to realize the good, solid techniques behind these really bad circus feats. BWW Reviews: LETTICE AND LOVAGE at Quotidian Theatre Co.BWW Reviews: LETTICE AND LOVAGE at Quotidian Theatre Co.
by Pamela Roberts - Apr 23, 2015

Why let the boring old truth stand in the way of a compelling story? Lettice Douffet lives her life by a code her flamboyant actress mother taught her: 'Enlarge! Enliven! Enlighten!' She eschews "the mere" - the regular, tedious, mundane, or mediocre in life. Lettice and Lovage contrasts dreamer and free spirit Lettice Douffet with bureaucrat Lotte Schoen, a rigid realist. Despite their differences the two find commonality and camaraderie. Quotidian Theatre - theatre dedicated to the poetry of everyday life, no-frills storytelling, and realistic situations and dialogue - brings us Peter Shaffer's witty clash of opposites ultimately finding solidarity.
