Pianist Kirill Gerstein to Perform in New York and New Jersey

Pianist Kirill Gerstein assumes a variety of roles-solo recitalist, chamber musician, and concerto soloist-in New York- and New Jersey-based performances from Thursday, February 23, to Wednesday, March 1. First he performs Rachmaninoff's Second Piano Concerto in four concerts (February 23-26) with the New Jersey Symphony Orchestra conducted by Xian Zhang. The next evening at 7:30 p.m., he gives a solo recital at the McCarter Theatre Center in Princeton, performing works by Bach, Beethoven, Brahms, and Liszt. He concludes his concerts with a chamber performance of Brahms's Piano Quintet with the Hagen Quartet at Carnegie's Zankel Hall on Wednesday, March 1 at 7:30 p.m. (more...)

Margaret McNellis and Ann Winters Launch New Sci-Fi Short Fiction Series

Co-authors Margaret McNellis and Ann Winters published the first of a science fiction series recently. At just over 8,800 words, this first part of the series is available on for $0.99. Charity Greene makes an unexpected discovery, which prompts her investigation into secret files maintained by a genetics company that contracts with the government. Her Curiosity has its consequences, especially after a high-ranking officerher fathercautions her against her explorationsbut she doesn't heed his advice. Margaret McNellis holds a master's in English and Creative Writing. Her short fiction has been published in Fictitious Magazine, See Spot Run, The Penman Review, The Copperfield Review, and Dual Coast Magazine. She also received honorable mention in the 2015 WOWWomen on Writing Winter Flash Fiction contest. Ann Winters and McNellis have been writing partners since 2010, though this is their first published, co-authored work. Winters has been creating stories since childhood. McNellis and Winters plan to release subsequent parts of the Hybrid story every two weeks until the story's completion. During release, the story will be available in ebook format; however, McNellis and Winters plan to release a hardcopy version of all the parts combined into one published volume once the short story installments are available. We're excited for the New Works Festival! The plays were written by Metro students, predominately from my beginning and advanced theatre classes. Once completed, the plays were read by a group of 9 readers. The readers consisted of one of my advanced theatre students and a group of artists from Brelby (including Brian and Shelby). The plays were selected, began rehearsing in January, and will premiere at Metropolitan Arts Institute at the end of the month. (more...)
