New Book Series Helps Educate Children and Young Adults with Type 1 Diabetes

PLAINSBORO, N.J. and NEW YORK, July 6, 2016 /PRNewswire/ Novo Nordisk, the global diabetes leader and JDRF, the leading research and advocacy organization funding type 1 diabetes (T1D) research, announced today the launch of the first book series of its kind designed to guide children and their caregivers through the different ages and stages of life with T1D. The six-part book series, titled, 'My Life, My Diabetes, My Way,' includes booklets for small children (ages 2-6), tweens (ages 7-11), teens (ages 12-16), and young adults (ages 17-24), as well as a book for caregivers and a general diabetes informational book. Each booklet contains age-appropriate educational information and activities. The series is available to download for free at t1support.cornerstones4care.com and hard copies will be made available in pediatric and adult endocrinologist offices throughout the Unites States beginning July 5. The Princess Grace Foundation-USA (PGF-USA) has announced the winners of the 2016 Princess Grace Awards.  The Annual Gala will continue the legacy of Princess Grace (Kelly) of Monaco, who helped emerging artists pursue their artistic goals during Her lifetime.  In total, the Foundation is awarding over $1 million to artists in theater, dance, and film.   In the presence of Their Serene Highnesses The Prince and The Princess of Monaco, this year's Gala will be held at Cipriani 25 Broadway on October 24, 2016.  The evening will be co-chaired by Lisa and Richard Plepler, Sidney and Katia Toledano, and Gillian Murphy and Ethan Stiefel. BRIC Celebrate Brooklyn! offered New Yorkers a free evening of empowering music and dance at the Prospect Park Bandshell on July 21st 2016.  The program began with Brandee Younger's glistening jazzy harp music following the traditions of Dorothy Ashby and Alice Coltrane.  Younger's mellow jazzy music scintillated throughout the park as she played original compositions and covers of Coltrane and Ashby.  (more...)

BWW Review: HAIRSPRAY at Smithtown Performing Arts Centre

Of the many productions that will come and go of the Tony award winning musical Hairspray, the incarnation at the Smithtown Performing Arts Center is incredibly enjoyable. Running through August 28th under the excellent direction of Long Island theatre vet Jordan Hue, the talented cast will leave you singing the Marc Shaiman/Scott Wittman score for weeks. To add, the book by Mark O'Donnell and Thomas Meehan will indeed stand the test of time as we progress towards full equality at every level. (more...)

SONGS OF TOM KITT Concert Set for City Winery, 7/18

Refuge Theatre Project, the two-year-old company that produced the surprise hit musical of the 2015-16 season with its environmental staging of High Fidelity in a makeshift 'record store,' will present a one-night-only concert of songs by High Fidelity composer Tom Kitt. The evening, called I Got You, will showcase selections from Broadway musicals for which Kitt either composed the score or provided musical arrangements, along with new unpublished songs he's provided especially for the event. City Winery, 1200 W. Randolph Street is the event venue. Christopher Pazdernik, director of High Fidelity, will direct the concert, with music direction by Mike Evans. (more...)

ISA BRIONES was born Isabella Camille Briones in London, England. Her parents, Jon Jon Briones and Megan Johnson Briones are both actors and singers, and her younger brother, Teo Briones is also an actor. She began modeling in New York at the age of 3, and started acting when her family moved to Los Angeles in 2006. She is best known for her role in the film Takers, playing Matt Dillon's daughter. Isa is entering her senior year of high school, and is excited to be making her professional theater debut in this production of Next to Normal. 14th Annual NY Burlesque Festival September 29th-October 2nd!

The Annual New York Burlesque Festival is the largest and most acclaimed festival of its kind in the world, and has attracted sold-out crowds since it's premiere in 2003.  This fall marks the 14th year for this celebrated event, and producers, Thirsty Girl & Pontani  Productions will once again, serve up 4 nights of glitter and glamour in Gotham, with over 120 eye-popping performances from international leading burlesque and variety entertainers at five of NYC's hottest nightclubs. Vienna Philharmonic to Release SUMMER NIGHT Concert on CD, DVD & More, 9/30

NEW YORK, NEW YORK (July 25, 2016)—Conducted by Semyon Bychkov in May 2016, the 13th annual Vienna Philharmonic Summer Night Concert Schönbrunn will be released on CD, DVD, Blu-Ray, and digital platforms by Sony Classical on August 12 and broadcast on PBS's Great Performances on Friday, September 30 at 9 p.m. (check local listings.). The Summer Night Concerts are presented free each year in the gardens of Vienna's Imperial Schönbrunn Palace, and Mr. Bychkov—conducting the event for the first time—led the Vienna Philharmonic in front of its largest Summer Night Concert audience ever (102,000 spectators). The performance reached an additional 585,000 people through TV and radio, having been broadcast by 83 stations on five continents. (more...)
