Throughout 1936, the world's press and newsreels are abuzz with stories about the World's Most Eligible Bachelor; His Majesty King Edward VIII - By the Grace of God, King, Defender of the Faith, Emperor of India, Titular Ruler of one quarter of the world, the King-Emperor is the most eligible man of his day. Dashingly handsome, he is linked romantically to many; his final choice precipitates a constitutional crisis. Mrs Wallis Warfield Simpson, an American divorcee, succeeds where all others have failed. While the United States reels from the Great Depression, Continental Europe is shadowed by the menace of Hitler and the National Socialist party as the storm clouds gather for the maelstrom to come. Meanwhile, society London exists in the twilight of empire, a hedonistic ballroom where party-goers dance away the last years of peace. (more...)

As they discuss the state of Germany, the establishment of a new world order and countering the effects of war, another quartet entertains them with the melodies of Mozart, Haydn, Borodin and Bartok. But as the most powerful men in the world attempt to establish a new harmony, the musicians' relationships are fracturing. Jermyn Street Theatre has announced the cast for the first major revival in nearly twenty years of Frederick Lonsdale's On Approval. The Olivier Award winning actress Sarah Crowe, who was last seen at the theatre in the UK premiere of Henrik Ibsen's St John's Night will play Maria Wislake alongside Louise Calf, who was also part of the Ibsen cast, as Helen Hayle. Pandora Productions opens its 2013-14 season on Thursday, September 12, with Boy Meets Boy, a high spirited musical homage to the romantic screwball comedies of the '30s. This story of love triangles, mistaken identities and fast-moving intrigue is set in London during the abdication of King Edward VIII for the notorious Mrs. Simpson. Reporter Casey O' Brien learns of preening groom Clarence who's been jilted at the altar by the mysterious 'English Rose' and becomes obsessed with finding this charming and good looking stranger but instead ends up with a very big surprise.
