Today, the Irish Repertory Theatre (Charlotte Moore, Artistic Director and Ciarán O’Reilly, Producing Director) announced two productions for their Spring 2022 season. The New York Premiere of Belfast Girls by Jaki McCarrick (The Naturalists) and directed by Nicola Murphy (A Girl Is A Half-formed Thing) will run May 11-June 26, 2022 on the Francis J. Greenburger Mainstage, with an opening night set for May 19, 2022. Two by Synge, by John Millington Synge and directed by Charlotte Moore (The Streets of New York), will run April 13-May 22, 2022 on the W. Scott McLucas Studio Stage, with an opening night set for April 24, 2022.

Katie Mitchell will direct Miriam Battye's compelling adaptation of little scratch.  Adapted from Rebecca Watson's debut novel, little scratch is a fearless and exhilarating account of a woman's consciousness over the course of 24 hours.  Moronkẹ Akinola, Eleanor Henderson, Eve Ponsonby and Ragevan Vasan will perform in this production from 5 November until 11 December.

Portland Opera will mark the start of the 2019/20 season with Giacomo Puccini's powerful drama Madama Butterfly. This production will feature the U.S. debut of acclaimed soprano Hiromi Omura as the title character, a role she has sung with Opera Australia at the Sydney Opera House, the Latvian National Opera, Deutsche Oper Berlin, and The New National Theatre Tokyo.

This piece tells the story of a young wife and mother named Cio-Cio-San, in Nagasaki, Japan, who waits for the return of her beloved B.F. Pinkerton, a lieutenant in the United States Navy. Written in 1903, and last seen on the Portland Opera stage in 2012, Puccini's stunning and emotional work continues to be one of the most popular operas performed in the United States. Portland Opera will present four performances of Madama Butterfly on October 25, 27, 31, and November 2 at the Keller Auditorium in downtown Portland.

The final opera of the season is the West Coast Premiere of Breaking the Waves by Missy Mazzoli and Royce Vavrek with performances on Saturday, August 10 at 8:30, Friday, August 16 at 8:30 and Sunday, August 18 at 3:00. Based on a film by Lars von Trier, Breaking the Waves has been hailed as one of the best new operas of recent years. The opera premiered in Philadelphia in 2016 and had subsequent performances in New York in 2017.

A National Endowment for the Arts survey last year found that the percentage of U.S. adults who attend at least one opera each year dropped from 3.2 percent in 2002 to 2.2 percent in 2017.

'Babes in Toyland' is now showing at the Growing Stage Theatre in Netcong, NJ through December 16th. It's a wonderful production with something for kids of all ages.

Blue Heaven presents twelve distinct comedy acts over two days this February 1 and 2. These exciting new platforms expand FringeArts' already rich roster of programming-the flagship fall Fringe Festival, contemporary circus festival Hand to Hand, and year-round music, comedy, and cabaret performances-and further its mission to present world-class, contemporary performing arts that challenge convention and inspire new ways of thinking.
