by Tyler Peterson - Sep 22, 2013

VIRGIN - In the common world, this usually refers to a person who has not engaged in sexual relations. In the ROCKY HORROR world, this word refers to the many unfortunate people who have never experienced THE ROCKY HORROR SHOW (RHS) in a theater with an audience and a live cast. Seeing it on home video (Blu-ray, DVD, VHS, Netflix Instant, etc.) on TV or even in a movie theater doesn't count! You truly want to experience it live!!!!

BWW Reviews: Austin Encore of Theater Under the Stars' CHORUS LINE is Wrinkled & Crooked
by Jeff Davis - Jul 25, 2013

Late in A Chorus Line, the brassy Sheila states, 'God, when it's over do I need a drink!' I hear ya, girl. Judging by the guy to my left who spent the show playing on his phone, the woman to my right who was more interested in her bracelet and the musician in the pit who I saw reading a book, I'm guessing the bar will be crowded.

An amazing flashback concert spectacle called the SAIL ROCK tour featuring Christopher Cross, Orleans, Gary Wright, Firefall, John Ford Coley, Robbie Dupree and Player. BWW Reviews: CHICAGO at the Arundel Barn Playhouse is 'All That Jazz'
by Scott Moreau - Jul 5, 2013

"They'll love you a lot more if you hang. You know why? Because they'll sell more papers". When Bob Fosse, John Kander and Fred Ebb presented their jazz-aged masterpiece for the first time in 1975, I doubt they could foresee millions of people tuning in for highlights on the George Zimmerman trial on every major network. Nor could Maurine Dallas Watkins have any way of knowing that her play (CHICAGO is based on it) would be so topical for years to come, after writing it in 1926. But, nearly 90 years later, with trials on every channel and our justice system often in upheaval, it seems to be more relevant than ever. And the Arundel Barn Playhouse's production of CHICAGO proves just why it has endured.

BWW Interviews: Mitzi Hamilton Discusses TUTS' A CHORUS LINE
by Kristina Nungaray - Jul 5, 2013

As summer rolls through Houston, Theatre Under the Stars (TUTS) is ready to kick the heat up a notch with their free summer production of the Tony Award and Pulitzer Prize winning musical A CHORUS LINE. Sure to be "one singular sensation," the production tells the story of seventeen dancers vying to make their dreams come true by earning a coveted spot on the chorus line of a Broadway show. TUTS is notorious for producing high quality entertainment, and this production of A CHORUS LINE will be no exception. TUTS is pulling out all of the stops, featuring a supremely talented cast that will be choreographed and directed by A CHORUS LINE alumna Mitzi Hamilton, making it one of the most anticipated shows this summer. Serving as the inspiration for the character Val Clark, Mitzi Hamilton has been involved with A CHORUS LINE since its inception. She has served as an actress and dancer in both the Original London Company and the New York Company. As a choreographer and director, she has played a fundamental role in keeping the iconic production alive by passing it on to future generations. Recently she took time out of her busy schedule to talk to me about what Houston audiences can expect from TUTS' production of A CHORUS LINE.

The Krayolas Release TORMENTA Album
by Kristin Salaky - Jun 21, 2013

In Texas, they like their legends. The Alamo, Sam Houston, even the Dallas Cowboys. And down in San Antonio they have another: the Krayolas, the band started in 1975 by the Saldana brothers, a pair of Mexican-American teenagers in love with powerpop. The great Augie Meyers, the Texas Tornado himself, calls them up to go in the studio with him, and Little Steven, Dave Marsh, and Ben Fong-Torres think they're the coolest thing since an iced bottle of Lone Star.

SILENT TREES is Released
by Christina Mancuso - Jun 7, 2013

Nasir Shansab's dark and brooding new novel is set in Afghanistan, but not one you might recognize. Silent Trees takes place before the Taliban, the Mujahedeen, and even before the Soviet invasion, revealing a world few Americans have ever experienced. Though the story and its characters are fictional, they inhabit a world where the distinction between the real Afghanistan of the 70's and the one of Silent Trees is arbitrary.

BWW Reviews: OC Hosts Tony-winning Legend Barbara Cook's 85th Birthday Concert
by Michael L. Quintos - Apr 16, 2013

Billed as Barbara Cook's Special 85th Birthday Concert, the Tony Award-winning soprano's one-woman concert of musical theatre songs, rare selections, and jazz standards at the Renee and Henry Segerstrom Concert Hall in Costa Mesa was met with well-earned---and well-deserved---adoring cheers throughout the evening. And if the concert was Cook's master class in musical performance, her latter interview with ASCAP's Michael Kerker was a symposium on how to be the best entertainer one can be.
