Based on an inspiring true story, “THE SOUND OF MUSIC” is one of Rodgers and Hammerstein’s most beloved musicals. Set in Austria on the brink of WWII, Maria a postulant, proves too high-spirited for the religious life and is dispatched to serve as governess for the seven children of a widowed naval Captain. Her growing rapport with the youngsters, coupled with her generosity of spirit, gradually captures the heart of the stern Captain.

The theater will be alive with The Sound of Music when a one-hour concert sing-along adaptation of the classic show is presented by Bergen County Players (BCP) as the final Second Stage production of the 80th season. Running for just three performances, from June 21st through June 23rd, shows will be on Friday and Saturday night at 8pm while the Sunday matinee curtain will be raised at 2pm. The Civic Light Opera Company has gone back to the original script by Howard Lindsay and Russell Crouse and it is very effective when done with straight-forward sincerity, as it is here. * * * * 1/2 (OUT OF 5)
