In an interview published in Zaptoit.com today, Christopher Plummer, who portrayed Captain Von Trapp in the 1965 Rodgers & Hammerstein classic THE SOUND OF MUSIC, gave a thumbs-up to the casting of NBC's upcoming live version of the musical.

Acclaimed British actor Stephen Moyer has been added to the cast of NBC's Dec. 5 live holiday production of THE SOUND OF MUSIC.

The 2013 Season of Drayton Entertainment's Huron Country Playhouse opens in a delightful way with Rodgers and Hammerstein's loveable classic: THE SOUND OF MUSIC! Country music icon and American Idol star Carrie Underwood will portray the role of Maria von Trapp in NBC's upcoming live holiday broadcast of THE SOUND OF MUSIC. The network announced today that the show, executive produced by Craig Zadan and Neil Meron, will premiere on Thursday, December 5, 2013.

Rodgers & Hammerstein's final show, The Sound of Music, has always had a reputation for being overly sentimental and unbearably sweet. Yet, as originally written, the show has much more of an edge. The Civic Light Opera Company has gone back to the original script by Howard Lindsay and Russell Crouse and it is very effective when done with straight-forward sincerity, as it is here. * * * * 1/2 (OUT OF 5)
