New images have been released from the the upcoming big screen adaptation of the musical Nine.
The film, starring Daniel Day-Lewis, and Nicole Kidman, is scheduled to hit cinemas November 25, 2009. The all-star cast is directed by Rob Marshall, who also helmed critically-acclaimed 2002 musical Chicago - which garnered six Academy Awards, including a Best Supporting Actress gong for Catherine Zeta-Jones. Marion Cotillard, Kate Hudson, Stacy 'Fergie' Ferguson, Sophia Loren, Penelope Cruz and Judi Dench star in the film as well.

New York Philharmonic Principal Clarinet Stanley Drucker, who will retire from the Orchestra at the end of the 2008?09 season concluding a 60-year tenure, will give his final concerto appearances in performances of Copland?s Clarinet Concerto, conducted by Lorin Maazel, Tuesday, June 4, at 7:30 p.m., Saturday, June 6, at 8:00 p.m., and Tuesday, June 9, 2009, at 7:30 p.m. Mr. Drucker, who joined the New York Philharmonic at age 19 in 1948, and whose tenure encompasses one-third of the history of the 167-year-old orchestra, will have performed as soloist with the Orchestra some 200 times (both at home and abroad), and will have played in more than 10,200 concerts under nine New York Philharmonic conductors at the conclusion of his tenure.

The Longwood Players continues its 11th season celebrating women with a stunning musical based on the work of Federico Fellini. Nine has music & lyrics by Maury Yeston (book by Arthur Kopit). It is adapted from the Italian by Mario Fratti.
The show will be performed at the Cambridge Family YMCA theatre on April 24, 25, 30, May 1, and May 2 at 8 pm.

THE TRIAL OF THE CATONSVILLE NINE Opens 2/14-3/21

On May 17th, 1968, two Catholic priests, and seven Catholic activists including a nurse, a nun, an artist and four others all walked into the selective service office Local Board 33, located in the Knights of Columbus building in Catonsville, Maryland, grabbed hundreds of 1-A draft files and burned them with homemade napalm in protest against U.S. involvement in Vietnam. The publicity and news coverage from the ensuing trial was instrumental in galvanizing the American anti-war movement. The Actors' Gang presents The Trial of the Catonsville Nine, Daniel Berrigan's free-verse dramatization based on the actual records of the trial in which he and eight other defendants were convicted. The Trial of the Catonsville Nine opens on Saturday, February 14 with performances continuing through March 21. Low-priced previews begin February 5.
