Yes, André de Shields is playing Lear! His long career in musical theater stretches from the original Hair to The Wiz to Hadestown, and it is bespangled with awards (Emmy, Grammy and others). He’s an icon. Now, at seventy-five, he takes on the most demanding role in all of Shakespeare.

The song was written and recorded by John whilst he was ‘in isolation’ in Florida, and he took hope and inspiration from watching the sunrise every morning over ‘Cocahatchee Bay’. New York City Ballet announced today that award-winning filmmaker Sofia Coppola will direct a film for the Company’s current digital season, which will premiere at NYCB’s 2021 Spring Gala—the Company’s first-ever virtual gala event—on Wednesday, May 5.
