UnsungMusicalsCo. is proud to announce the development of a new production of How Now, Dow Jones (www.HowNowDowJones.com) starring Sarah Litzsinger (Beauty and the Beast), Colin Hanlon (Rent) and Fred Berman (The Normal Heart). With book by Max Shulman, music by Academy Award winner Elmer Bernstein and lyrics by Tony Award nominee Carolyn Leigh, this newly revised version will be presented as part of the 2009 New York International Fringe Festival.

Written by Public Theater Master Writer Chair Suzan-Lori Parks and directed by Jo Bonney, FATHER COMES HOME FROM THE WARS (PARTS 1, 8, & 9) will begin performances on Friday, June 5 and run through Sunday, June 28.

Starlight Theatre Announces 2009 Blue Star Award Winners

Students from 44 Kansas City area high schools, who performed in 48 musical productions during the 2008-09 school year, sang and danced their way into the spotlight at Starlight Theatre tonight. During Starlight's seventh annual Blue Star Awards ceremony, their theatrical talents and achievements were cheered by more than 2,000 parents, friends, teachers and theatre fans attending the free public event.

Karen Mason, Broadway star of Sunset Boulevard, Mama Mia, and recently Hairspray, will be heading to Queens this summer to teach students in a new Cabaret Workshop for teens produced by the Theatre Arts Center in Bayside. Ms. Mason will join other professionals such as, Angelo Fraboni from Jerome Robbins Broadway, Robbie Roby from Hairspray, Jim Osorno from Rocky Horror, Penny Aynn Maas from Cabaret, Carlos L. Encinias from Altar Boyz, and Connor Gallagher from Beauty & the Beast who teach and choreograph for the Theatre Arts Center's Summer Workshops & Camp.

Hennepin Announces Spring '09 Honorees For Spotlight Musical Theater Program

Hennepin Theatre Trust today announced the Spring 2009 honorees from among 31 Minnesota high schools participating in the 2008-2009 SpotLight Musical Theatre Program. The SpotLight awards recognize accomplishments by school and artistic category for this Hennepin Theatre Trust program which supports the work of Twin Cities' high schools that present musical theatre-from classics including Fiddler on the Roof to a new school edition of Sweeney Todd. The musicals are made possible by the collaboration of over 2,500 students and are seen by nearly 50,000 audience members annually.

The Joyce Theater Foundation (New York), in association with the Philadelphia Live Arts Festival, The Dance Center of Columbia College Chicago and On the Boards (Seattle), is pleased to announce the 12 choreographers in each of the four cities who will participate in The A.W.A.R.D Show! 2009. The 48 participants were selected from a total of 218 applicants from across the country; one from each city will take home a $10,000 award to use toward the creation of a new dance work.

Hudgens To Star In New Film 'BEASTLY' Inspired By 'Beauty And The Beast'

Vanessa Hudgens has been cast in 'Beastly,' a modern-day take on Beauty and the Beast, according to Entertainment Tonight. Hudgens will, of course, be playing the 'Beauty' in the film. British actor Alex Pettyfer ('Wild Child,' Alex Rider: Operation Stormbreaker') is reportedly in talks to star as the 'Beast' in the film, which is currently scheduled to begin shooting this summer. The film is directed by Daniel Barnz and produced by Susan Cartsonis in association with CBS Films.

Breckenridge, President and CEO of Theatre Under The Stars (TUTS), announced today the nominations for TUTS' seventh annual Tommy Tune Awards which will be held on Tuesday, April 21, 2009 at 7:30 p.m. at the Hobby Center for the Performing Arts. Developed by TUTS, the Tommy Tune Awards honor musical theatre excellence at the high school level. After reviewing and evaluating the 45 participating Houston-area high school productions during the 2008-2009 school year, a team of 29 Houston-based theatre professionals made 152 nominations in 15 categories.

Constantine Maroulis, ('American Idol' Season 4, Broadway's The Wedding Singer, RENT) reprising his critically acclaimed role as 'Drew', is now joined by Broadway's best 1970's & 1980's period actors Amy Spanger (The Wedding Singer, Kiss Me Kate) as 'Sherrie' and James Carpinello (Saturday Night Fever, VH1's 'So NoTORIous') as 'Stacee Jaxx'.
