BWW Review: Artistry's LEGALLY BLONDE Proposes Illegal, Incomparable Delight in Pink
by Peggy Sue Dunigan - Aug 15, 2018

Woods comma Elle descended upon the cultural scene wrapped up as Reese Witherspoon in the 2001 film "Legally Blonde." "Legally Blonde 2" followed shortly after. Bloomington's Artistry  Theater at the Bloomington Center for the Arts opened the Broadway version of the film based on the musical's New York 2007 debut, after which the musical was christened with a Laurence Olivier Award for Best New Musical. The music and lyrics by composed by Neil Benjamin and Laurence O'Keefe, Heather Hach delivered a clever book for the production. In the film and the musical, Elle Woods wins the audiences' hearts with her unabashed love of anything pink and plucky confidence that overflows throughout the story.

BWW Review: AVIGNON THEATRE FESTIVAL Presents 36, AVENUE GEORGES MANDEL By RAIMUND HOGHE
by Wesley Doucette - Jul 19, 2018

To enter or exit The Avignon Theatre Festival's stunning Cloître des Carmes one must cross in full view of bleacher seating on the space's Marley floor, which extends uninterrupted from the upstage gothic corridor. Despite such a conspicuous route, or perhaps because of it, many attending Raimund Hoghe's 36, Avenue Georges Mandel took a speedy or defiant mid-performance exit. The performance I attended this past Tuesday ended in a sturdy division between aggressive boos and a smattering of impassioned standing ovations. I am not sure if either extreme reaction was truly merited. I am even more uncertain as to why this piece, first performed in the Festival in 2007, was picked for a rare Avignon Theatre Festival revival.

BWW Blog: Kona Nui Night at Ward Village marred by selfish Fort Shafter Lexus Driver
by Anton Anderssen - Dec 26, 2017

Kona Nui Nights is a free monthly event that honors and highlights Hawaiian language, music, and the art of hula. Hosted beneath a large tent behind the IBM building, Ward Village presents one of the best cultural experiences on Oahu. December's special night featured Kupaoa (Kellen and Lihau Paik ) and Mark Yamanaka. This special Kona Nui Nights was a family-friendly event with holiday-themed activities and treats throughout the night. Guests had to RSVP well in advance, and the event was completely booked to capacity. However, some disabled guests found they were robbed of this Christmas celebration due to a Grinch who decided to block the handicap ramp with his Lexus. Instead of allowing the path 50 inches for a wheelchair to pass through, he decided handicapped people only needed about 13 inches for their wheelchairs and walkers in the space between his car and the cement wall. Pride Films and Plays presents HIS GREATNESS
by A.A. Cristi - Oct 3, 2017

Three men - a great American playwright, his trusted and loyal assistant, and a young Canadian street hustler - find themselves together for two days in a hotel room in Vancouver. The ensuing battle for power, love and loyalty is frequently funny, engagingly dark and ultimately moving. HIS GREATNESS, inspired by a 'potentially true story' during the declining days of Tennessee Williams, is an intimate insight into the mind of a familiar public figure, grappling with the loss of former glory and desperate for a return to form and success. Pride Films and Plays will stage the play from October 14 November 12, 2017 in The Buena, the 50-seat venue of the Pride Arts Center. The Buena is located at 4147 N. Broadway, Chicago. The press opening will be Tuesday, October 17 at 7:30 pm.
