The Centenary of Alwin Nikolais's birth is being celebrated in 10 cities world-wide with New York engagements at Nikolais's original artistic home, the Henry Street Playhouse (now the Abrons Arts Center), May 1 and 2, and at The Joyce Theater, May 4-9. The spectacular double season of revivals, some dating back to 1953, will be performed by the Ririe-Woodbury Dance Company, the repository of the Nikolais Dance Theatre repertory. Signature Theatre Company announced today that ANGELS IN AMERICA: A GAY FANTASIA ON NATIONAL THEMES, the Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award-winning epic work by Tony Kushner, will begin performances on Tuesday, September 14, 2010, launching the theatre's 20th anniversary season. Move over, Bloomberg; the mayoral race just got a whole lot tighter as Erin Leigh Peck takes on the role of Mayor Babs Belgoody, along with other memorable characters, in The Toxic Avenger, the Outer Critics' Circle 2009 pick for Best New Off-Broadway Musical. Peck will be playing the multiple roles currently played by Nancy Opel, who originated the roles in the world premiere production at George Street Playhouse, while Opel is on vacation. Peck has been understudying all female roles since the show began performances at New York's New World Stages (340 W. 50th St) in March of 2009.
