Maestro LUKE FRAZIER and THE AMERICAN POPS ORCHESTRA - Washington, DC's innovative hometown orchestra - will launch the 12:15 PM lunchtime concert series "THIRD THURSDAYS" to highlight the unique musical personalities and special talents of the members of their acclaimed ensemble at Live! at 10th and G (First Congregational, UCC Washington - 945 G Street NW, Washington, DC 20001). Philadelphia Theatre Company Announces Extension for RIZZO

Philadelphia Theatre Company announces a one-week-only extension of Rizzo by Bruce Graham through Sunday, October 23.  Currently running at the Suzanne Roberts Theatre (Broad and Lombard Streets) and directed by Joe Canuso in a re-mounting of Theatre Exile's sold-out production last fall, the ensemble cast features Scott Greer as Frank Rizzo with Damon Bonetti, Paul L. Nolan, Robert DaPonte, William Rahill, Amanda Schoonover, and Steven Wright.  The extra week includes performances on Tuesday at 6:30 PM,Wednesday at 7:00 PM, Thursday through Saturday at 8:00 PM and matinees on Saturday at 2:00 PM and Sunday at 3:00 PM.  (more...)

Ballet Concerto en Miami, FL cerrara sus puertas despues de 55 años. Una de las escuelas de ballet clasico de Mayor calidad en Miami, Ballet Concerto abrio sus puertas en 1961 y posteriormente fundo la primera compañia de ballet profesional en el sur de la Florida en 1964. La escuela produjo nombres reconocibles en el mundo de la danza, mas destacadamente Fernando Bujones, y la compañia creo un precedente para el ballet clasico en Miami al invitar a los mas extraordinarios artistas del ballet del siglo veinte al sur de la Florida por primera vez. Artistas invitados incluyeron a Rudolph Nureyev, Carla Fracci, Cynthia Gregory, Natalia Makarova, Ivan Nagy, Gelsey Kirkland y Alexander Gudonov para nombrar solo algunos. Ballet Concerto se conservara como una institucion clave en el desarrollo de las artes y la cultura en el sur de Florida, especialmente entre de la comunidad hispana. Las directoras Sonia Diaz y Martha del Pino, que se exiliaron del Ballet Nacional de Cuba, donde bailaron junto a Alicia Alonso y bajo la direccion de Fernando Alonso, implementaron y mantuvieron el plan de estudio riguroso que hoy en dia destaca al ballet clasico cubano. No hay duda de que el cierre de esta gran institucion deja un enorme vacio, sobre todo en el corazon de las tres generaciones que estudiaron y bailaron en Ballet Concerto y en la memoria de los que fueron testigo de la evolucion de las artes culturales en Miami entre los años sesenta y ochenta, cuando la escuela y compañia estaban en la cima. The sole character is a 50-year-old middle class woman who lives alone in an overly tidyapartment. She comes home from work, prepares dinner, does the laundry, watches TV, and listensto a radio program. Surrounded by Ikea furniture and brand-name appliances, acclaimed Polishactress Danuta Stenka infuses these actions with an increasing sense of loneliness and futility.Request Concert explores the devastating circumstances of life in a world that values objects overpeople. The Street Pianos are returning to Boston!  Mayor Walsh will officially open the art installation on Friday, 9/23 at 3 pm at the piano on City Hall Plaza. He'll be joined by Luke Jerram, the UK artist that created the Street Pianos concept and Gary Dunning, executive director of Celebrity Series of Boston, who is producing the event.  There will also be short performance by the Voices of Renaissance Choir from the Boston Renaissance Charter School.
