Keeping us gasping is what Cabaret in all of its incarnations has always been about. Gasping at the opulence, gasping at the decadence, gasping at the heedlessness and the horror. It is intentionally strong stuff, and if it delivers, then it succeeds. And by that yardstick, this version, whatever it may or may not owe to its predecessors, is a smashing success.

Word for Word and Z Space stage an atmospheric production of Samuel Taylor Coleridge's legendary Rime of the Ancient Mariner  with press nights of Friday and Saturday September 20 & 21 at 8pm running through October 12 (Previews Sept 11-19).

British synthpop stalwarts Nature of Wires present their new double album 'Modus', out on August 16 via Manchester's Analogue Trash label. Comprising 18 tracks, this is 80s-influenced synthpop with a dark edge. The album had its genesis in the late 80s and early 90s, when the band were in the middle of a creative hot streak.

Actor David Girolmo is speaking of the lesson his character, the Cowardly Lion, learns in the stage version of L. Word for Word and Z Space will stage an immersive production of Samuel Taylor Coleridge's legendary Rime of the Ancient Mariner  with a press night of Saturday September 21 at 8pm running through October 12 (Previews Sept 11-15, 18-20) .   Rime of the Ancient Mariner is to be directed by Jim Cave and Delia MacDougall with a cast that features Nathaniel Andalis, Lucas Brandt, Robert Ernst*, Darryl V. A Red Orchid Theatre announces the addition of eight new members to the Artistic Ensemble: Karen Aldridge, Myron Elliott-Cisneros, Levi Holloway, Travis A. Knight, Jess McLeod, Sadieh Rifai, Grant Sabin, and Steve Schine. A Red Orchid also welcomes two Resident Stage Managers Stephanie Heller and Christa van Baale.

Cowboy Junkies announce US tour dates in support of their latest release, All That Reckoning. Released on July 13, 2018, All that Reckoning is the band's first new recording since The Wilderness (2012), released via their own Latent Recordings, distributed by Redeye. Whether commenting on the fragile state of the world or on personal relationships, this new collection of songs encourages the listener to take notice. It also may be the most powerful album Cowboy Junkies have yet recorded.

Hylton Performing Arts Center announced today its 2019-2020 season of mainstage performances, featuring a diverse lineup of artists and ensembles across genres, as part of Hylton Presents, Hylton Family Series, Matinee Idylls, and the American Roots Series. Grammy winning singer/songwriter, John Berry, has released a heartfelt and personal song from his latest project, Thomas Road. The endearing single entitled, 'The Richest Man,” was released with an exclusive announcement in Billboard Magazine on Friday. The song is dedicated to his dad who taught him that the most valuable things in life typically had very little to do with money. Watch the official video here.

In celebration of four decades of hits, country music traditionalist John Anderson has released 40 Years and Still Swingin'. The new two-disc album revisits the songs that speak straight to his creative artistry and commitment to the genre.  

In 2018, the legendary Steve Miller Band's Complete Albums Volume 1 (1968-1976) debuted as an unprecedented and acclaimed 9LP vinyl box set, individual 180-gram black vinyl LPs and color vinyl LPs, and HD digital audio. From March 21 to April 7, Theater for the New City, 155 First Ave., will present Czechoslovak-American Marionette Theatre (CAMT) in an update of its perennially popular 'Johannes Dokchtor Faust, a Petrifying Puppet Comedye,' translated and directed by Vit Horejs. This classic of the Czech marionette repertoire is traditionally used to make fun of a king or a local mayor.  The company's adaptation was initially developed in 1990 and its topical references are being updated to the current topsy-turvy political climate.

Tonight, FOX will air their third live musical production. Following in the footsteps of Grease and A Christmas Story, the network will be presenting Jonathan Larson's Rent, a rock musical that is loosely based on Giacomo Puccini's 1896 opera, La boheme. The story follows a group of impoverished young artists struggling to survive and create a life in New York City's East Village in the thriving days of Bohemian Alphabet City, under the shadow of HIV/AIDS.

The California Camp Fire wildfires destroying homes and everything in their paths conjure a familiar feeling for Megan Edwards, whose home and worldly possessions were destroyed in the wildfires of late 1993. This year marks the 20th anniversary of her memoir Roads From the Ashes: An Odyssey in Real Life on the Virtual Frontier. To mark the occasion, publisher Imbrifex Books has released a new e-book edition.

NBC begins 2019 with music's biggest names in an evening that can't be missed. "NBC's New Year's Eve" will feature performances by the incredible Diana Ross, Kelly Clarkson, Andy Grammer, John Legend and Blake Shelton. 

Freestyle Digital Media, the digital film distribution division of Byron Allen's Entertainment Studios, has acquired the North American rights to John Asher's I HATE KIDS. This is the second title from John Asher that Freestyle Digital Media has acquired, following 2016's A BOY CALLED PO. Starring Tom Everett Scott (TruTV's “I'm Sorry”), Tituss Burgess (Netflix's “Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt”), Rachel Boston (500 DAYS OF SUMMER) and Rhea Seehorn (AMC's “Better Call Saul”) film will hit select theaters nationwide January 18, 2019 along with all digital platforms.

February 8 will see the release via the venerable Bar/None label of Songs From Robin Hood Lane and From Memphis to New Orleans, two thought-provoking looks at an often overlooked period of Alex Chilton's long, curious career.  He was at the height of his cult star fame in the mid 1980s to mid 1990s when he made these recordings. It is some of his best most honest work oddly neglected for some time but delivered here for enthusiasts and neophytes alike. All these recordings have been out of print for decades.
