Skylight Music Theatre has announced financial information for the recently completed fiscal year. 'The 2012-2013 season exceeded all expectations, particularly at the box office, and resulted in a small operating surplus,' reported Skylight Managing Director, Amy Jensen. 'We are pleased to report that we increased revenues by 14% over the prior year while holding our expenses to a nominal 2% increase.' (more...)

American Classics Kicks Off 2013-14 Season: 'SO KAYE, DIZZY FINGERS and More!

For their 2013-2014 season American Classics brings three 'firsts' to their programming. For the first time American Classics will present a guest performer in their own concert, acclaimed entertainer John O'Neil in his popular salute to Danny Kaye, 'So Kaye, a one man 'tongue-twisting tour-de force' showcasing songs, stories and monologues culled from Kaye's illustrious career. 'So Kaye was nominated for the prestigious IRNE award in 2001; since that time O'Neil has performed the show up and down the East Coast from Maine to Florida. 'Adding John O'Neil and 'So Kaye to our season is exciting for us. Center for Contemporary Opera to Pay Tribute to Hans Werner Henze with Performance of THE RUNAWAY SLAVE, 1/16-17

The Center for Contemporary Opera (CCO) is proud to pay tribute to composer Hans Werner Henze, who died in 2012 at the age of 86, with performances of his El Cimarron (The Runaway Slave), featuring baritone Eric McKeever in the title role. Not performed in New York since 1986, El Cimarron has music direction by Sara Jobin, and stage direction by Eugenia Arsenis, singled out as stage director by Miguel Barnet, author of the book upon which the opera is based.
