Rubicon Theatre presents a timely and trenchant production of Shakespeare's tragedy KING LEAR as the centerpiece of the company's 20th Anniversary Season. Directed by Co-Founder James O'Neil, the production features a 20-member cast led by acclaimed actor and company memberGeorge Ball, who has starred in previous Rubicon productions of All My Sons, Man of La Mancha, and Jacques Brel… (New York, L.A., and international companies of the latter).

2018 marks the 200th Anniversary of Frankenstein's publication. Mary Shelley was just 18 years old when she started writing it, and all of 20 by the time the first edition came out. Never out of print since, this enthralling tale of a mad scientist, who creates a grotesque but intelligent creature from assembled body parts is not only a seminal work of gothic horror, but also one of the earliest examples of science fiction literature. British author, Brian Aldiss (who would later write an unauthorised sequel - Frankenstein Unbound), is one of many literary luminaries to make the case that Shelley's book should be considered the very first science fiction novel, because it 'turns to modern experiments in the laboratory' to inspire and rationalise its fantastic events. Giving rise to countless imitators, Frankenstein has also spawned hundreds of stage and screen adaptations over the years - probably the most well-known being James Whale's haunting 1931 movie version starring Boris Karloff in what would become an iconic interpretation of The Creature, and Kenneth Branagh's flashy 1994 film, which featured a sensitive 'method' interpretation of Frankenstein's tragic creation from Robert De Niro.

With its vision focused squarely on the future, Nashville Children's Theatre (NCT) - the nation's oldest professional theatre for young audiences - last night revealed its upcoming "Season of Discovery," a slate of six challenging productions, along with an updated rendering of the company's iconic dragon logo.

The Warner Theatre will welcome Scotty McCreery to the Main Stage on Thursday, March 15 at 8 pm. Opening the show is Texas-based duo, Waterloo Revival. After a five year wait and a multitude of life changes, the country music star will release his new album Seasons Change on March 16 which includes his smash hit song 'Five More Minutes.'

The 5th Avenue Theatre is a vibrant hive of musical theater activity as the projects of NextFest: A Festival of New Musicals have started rehearsals this week. A three-week musical theater intensive development cycle, NextFest has played a role in the creation of musicals ranging from Persuasion by Harold Taw and Chris Jeffries (Taproot Theatre, 2017) to  Come From Away by Irene Carl Sankoff and David Hein (Broadway). Nationally recognized for its contribution to the contemporary musical theater cannon, The 5th Avenue Theatre is a celebrated incubator for new musicals. Each year, the nationally renowned theater company connects writers at all stages of development with some of the region's most brilliant performers, giving life to the words on the page and allowing book writers, composers and lyricists to see their work in action. Based on the short story by Isak Dinesen (and made famous by the 1987 Academy Award-winning film), Babette's Feast will begin performances Wednesday March 14th at the Theatre at Saint Clement's (423 West 46th Street, between Ninth & Tenth Avenues) for an open-ended Off-Broadway engagement.  Opening Night is set for Sunday March 25th (5pm).  The performance runs 90 minutes with no intermission.

Palo Alto Players, the Peninsula's first theatre company, announces its 88th season - featuring four Peninsula premieres and a re-imagined classic. The 2018-19 line-up, beginning September 2018, was unveiled Sunday, January 28 by Artistic Director Patrick Klein at the company's annual Season Announcement Party and includes Disney's TARZAN®, ALL THE WAY, SHAKESPEARE IN LOVE, FLOWER DRUM SONG, and ONE MAN, TWO GUVNORS. This morning, Ringling College of Art and Design announced it has received its largest single gift and the first eight-figure gift since the institution was founded in 1931. The generous donation of $15 million was given by Board of Trustees' member Dr. Joel Morganroth and his wife Dr. Gail Morrison Morganroth.

Palo Alto Players continues its 2017-18 Season with THE LARAMIE PROJECT, the powerful drama originally developed by Mois s Kaufman and members of Tectonic Theater Project in the aftermath of the 1998 murder of Matthew Shepard, a 21-year-old gay student at the University of Wyoming. The play chronicles the reactions of the town of Laramie, Wyoming in the year after the murder, bringing to life the real people who lived at the epicenter of one of the nation's most heart-wrenching anti-gay hate crimes. THE LARAMIE PROJECT is directed by Lee Ann Payne and features a cast of eight local Bay Area actors, portraying more than sixty characters on stage. The Kentucky Symphony Orchestra (KSO) Lindy hops back to two Swing Eras for it's November 18th show at the Northern Kentucky Convention Center. Experience true blasts from the past as the KSO's 18-piece swing band provides a history lesson with the authentic sounds of the original Swing Era (1931-1943); followed the crazy jump tunes of the 1990s revival featuring the 10-piece Covington Devou-Doo Daddies. Learn how the depression, world conflict, and the need for diversion came together to generate the great American musical genre known as Swing.

Before the holidays Portland Ovations Offstage announced the inaugural class of six Offstage Ambassadors. The class, comprised of sophomores and juniors from four area high schools, have been selected after a rigorous application process for this dynamic semester-long opportunity to explore what a professional commitment to the performing arts truly entails and to help spread the word about the power of the performing arts. Della Reese, the star of TOUCHED BY AN ANGEL and a talented singer, passed away Sunday November 19 from years of struggling with diabetes. She was 86.

The Philharmonic Society of Orange County and Segerstrom Center for the Arts will co-present Tod Browning's 1931 film classic DRACULA starring Bela Lugosi with original music by Philip Glass performed live by the legendary composer at the piano, the Grammy Award-winning Kronos Quartet, with Michael Riesman directing from the keyboard.
