Girl Scouts of the USA (GSUSA) announced today the start of the 2017 cookie season, which marks the 100th year of the first known sale of cookies by Girl Scouts. A century ago, girls started participating in what would evolve into the largest entrepreneurial training program for girls in the world: the Girl Scout Cookie Program. Through the program, girls learn the essential skills they need to become effective leaders, manage finances, gain self-sufficiency, and develop confidence in handling money. To commemorate this banner year for the organization and celebrate how the cookie program powers amazing experiences for Girl Scouts year-round, the highly anticipated Girl Scout S'mores cookies are now available, joining classics like Thin Mints and Trefoils/Shortbread.

For one night only, the Bay Area's own BANDALOOP will light up the Great Wall Oakland at Broadway and West Grand with its acclaimed, dynamic vertical dance. The award-winning short film SHIFT, shot in Yosemite National Park in 2015 and recent footage of the new work Coyote Waltz filmed as part of the National Park Service Centennial will frame the live performance on wall. Bringing wild space to urban place, Dances from Thin Air shares with our Bay Area audiences the mountain heart of BANDALOOP's artistry.

Playing the oldest Von Trapp daughter, Liesl, is Paige Silvester. The role was made famous by the recently deceased Charmain Carr (may she rest in peace) in the 1965 film by the same name. Silvester hails from Sacramento, California; earned her BFA in Musical Theatre from the University of Michigan; is no stranger to the stage; and writes a really fun blog. She grew up dancing, singing, and acting, and has performed The Muny, Sacramento Music Circus, and was most recently seen in the ensemble of the Broadway 1st National Tour of EVITA.
