Doc Severinsen subs for ailing Marvin Hamlisch for Nashville Symphony gig

Marvin Hamlisch has been forced to cancel his appearance in the Nashville Symphony's Bank of America Pops Series this weekend due to illness. Taking his place will be trumpeter Doc Severinsen, who will perform Thursday February 2, at 7 p.m. and Friday-Saturday, February 3-4, at 8 p.m. The legendary Tonight Show maestro so thoroughly enjoyed performing with the Nashville Symphony in 2009 that he quickly cleared his schedule to appear at Schermerhorn Symphony Center this weekend.

Dan Schiff, Ann Crumb Lead Media Theatre's WINGS

Philadelphia actor Dan Schiff, recently seen on The Media Theatre stage as Max in The Sound of Music, returns to Delaware County's only professional music theatre in the musical Wings. He plays two roles in the Jeffrey Lunden adaptation of Arthur Kopit's play about an aviatrix who suffers a stroke and must rediscover her inner spirit through rehabilitation.

The Grand Theatre Presents the Utah Premiere of 'Miss Evers’ Boys'

The Grand Theatre presents the Utah premier of Miss Evers' Boys, the 1992 play by awarding-winning playwright David Feldshuh. The play, based on the Tuskegee syphilis experiment, was a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize for Drama that same year. The Tuskegee experiment was a U. S. funded secret medical experiment on poor African Americans from 1932 to 1972, designed to study the effects of untreated syphilis. Eunice Evers, the nurse caring for these men, is aware of their lack of treatment, but feels her role it so console the dying men, many of whom are her direct friends. The play runs February 2 through 18, 2012 with performances at 7:30 pm. and Saturday matinees as 2:00 p.m. Tickets can be purchased through the Grand Theatre box office.

While the physical realities of Lakewood's venue preclude any such staging innovations as employed by Whatley, what you are treated to instead is a sharply focused and superbly acted production of Sorkin's seminal dramatic work. As one of the area's most successful community theater companies, Lakewood has consistently performed to capacity crowds, drawing actors from throughout the region.

According to Black Star News, Nicole Ari Parker will star opposite Blair Underwood in the upcoming Broadway revival of Tennessee Williams' A Streetcar Named Desire, directed by Emily Mann. Parker will play Blanche Du Bois in the production, which is set to open in the spring of 2012.

The exclusive multi-year, multi-platform deal enables the soaps' stories to continue beyond their finale dates on ABC.
