Annie Oakley, Buffalo Bill, Chief Sitting Bull, and Frank Butler will appear in Haven Academy of the Arts production of ANNIE GET YOUR GUN, a musical with lyrics and music by Irving Berlin and a book by Dorothy Fields and her brother Herbert Fields. The family-friendly musical presents a fictionalized version of the life of Annie Oakley (1860-1926), a sharpshooter who starred in Buffalo Bill's Wild West Show and her romance with sharpshooter Frank Butler.

In a recent interview with BroadwayWorld, broadway veteran Cybill Shepherd revealed that she'd love to star in a musical. When asked at the Hollywood Bowl Hall of Fame concert if she'd like to star in a Hollywood Bowl summer show, she responded: 'I'd like to do Annie Get Your Gun, to be perfectly honest! I may be a little old for it... but I could find something else!'

(UMC) will launch its 2014 developmental reading series at The New York Public Library for the Performing Arts with a special presentation of Peggy-Ann, the hit 1926 musical comedy with a book by Tony Award winner Herbert Fields (Annie Get Your Gun) and a score by the legendary songwriting team of Richard Rodgers & Lorenz Hart (Pal Joey, On Your Toes). The reading, directed by Ben West (Unsung Carolyn Leigh, The Fig Leaves Are Falling, At Home Abroad), will be held Thursday, May 22 at 2:30 PM in the Bruno Walter Auditorium.

Today in 1946, the second Broadway revival of Showboat opened at the Ziegfeld Theatre, and ran for 418 performances. Show Boat is a musical in two acts with music by Jerome Kern and book and lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein II. It was originally produced in New York in 1927 and in London in 1928, and was based on the 1926 novel of the same name by Edna Ferber. The plot chronicles the lives of those living and working on the Cotton Blossom, a Mississippi River show boat, from 1880 to 1927. The show's dominant themes include racial prejudice and tragic, enduring love.

Michael Cumpsty: Over 15 Years with Roundabout

Michael Cumpsty's first appearance on a Roundabout stage was in 1987 as a "moonstruck poet" in the Off-Broadway production of George Bernard Shaw's Man and Superman. Since then, he has appeared in 17 Broadway shows including five Roundabout productions and has been nominated for a Tony Award and two Outer Critics Circle awards. Cumpsty's most recent appearance on Broadway is in Machinal, now playing at the American Airlines Theatre through March 2.

The Kiss Kiss Cabaret producers Jenn A. Kincaid and Chris O. Biddle have announced the opening of a new retro-themed adult entertainment venue at 4707 N. Broadway. This 7,000 square foot speakeasy-style space will be called the 'Uptown Underground.' Located below street level, the Uptown Underground will host a 150 seat main stage and a 50 to 60 seat cabaret stage and is slated to open in Fall 2014.

The Center for Contemporary Opera (CCO) is proud to pay tribute to composer Hans Werner Henze, who died in 2012 at the age of 86, with performances of his El Cimarron (The Runaway Slave), featuring baritone Eric McKeever in the title role. Not performed in New York since 1986, El Cimarron has music direction by Sara Jobin, and stage direction by Eugenia Arsenis, singled out as stage director by Miguel Barnet, author of the book upon which the opera is based. Dowen, who has been collecting records since he was 13 years old, will share some of his thousands of recordings in a powerpoint presentation about the life of one of the most prolific singers in the history of music. A bass with a rich, smooth and sonorous voice, Pinza spent 22 seasons at New York's Metropolitan Opera, appearing in more than 750 performances of 50 operas. A popular recording star, Pinza went on to appear on Broadway, in Hollywood movies, and on television in his own series and daytime variety shows that were popular in the 1950s.
