TV Exclusive: BYU Students and Alums Bring It at Broadway Sessions!
by Nicole Rosky - May 15, 2017

You can take the boy out of Utah, but can you ever take the Utah out of the boy? Who knows, but a couple weeks back at Broadway Sessions, we did learn that you can bring the Utah to the boy. Full disclosure: I, Ben Cameron, grew up in the great red state of Utah, just a mile or two from Brigham Young University. So, although you may not have known, I have known for years just how sensational the training is in the BYU Music/Dance/Theatre program. Training so goodie resulted in starry careers for alumni Paul Canaan (Kinky Boots, Legally Blonde), Alicia Shumway (The King and I), Zach Hess (The Book of Mormon), Michael Milkanin (Kinky Boots), Becca Petersen (Bandstand) and more. Check them out in action alongside the extremely talented '17 graduating MDT class.

BWW Review: Jane Austen Fans Embrace an Enchanting New MISS BENNET
by Harmony Wheeler - Dec 6, 2016

It's the holidays at Pemberley. One might expect lavish decorations, ornate rooms, and a ball to be had any day now. But it's not the eclectic library or drawing room (more Longbourn than Pemberley in style) that stands out in Marin Theatre Company's latest production - although the tree does receive a few pleasant jabs throughout. Playwrights Lauren Gunderson and Margot Melcon treat us to a family Christmas in which the Bennet sisters continue to meddle, prattle and all together steal our hearts.

NYT Best Selling Author Presents David Farland Discovery Program for New Writers
by Christina Mancuso - Mar 21, 2016

WordFire Press will release 'The Feather and the Moon Well,' a debut novel by Shean Pao, as the first novel in the innovative David Farland Discovery program to discover and showcase new talent. David Farland, known as 'the Wizard of Storytelling,' is an award-winning, New York Times bestselling author. He's had a hand in discovering and nurturing new talent for years. In the late 1990s, he was asked by the head of Scholastic to help pick a book to push big for the coming year. He chose 'Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone.' As a writing instructor at Brigham Young University, he taught Stephenie Meyer, whose first novel 'Twilight' became an international success. Other students have gone on to become #1 New York Times Bestsellers, including Brandon Sanderson ('Wheel of Time'), Brandon Mull ('Fablehaven'), and James Dashner ('The Maze Runner'). As the lead judge in the world's largest science fiction and fantasy writing contest, Dave has a reputation for spotting and nurturing new talent. Dave says of this new program: 'From time to time, I find novelists of considerable talent, and I've wanted to be able to help them get a boost into the public spotlight. Fortunately, WordFire Press has offered me a forum to do that. I don't have any particular agenda. I like fantasy and science fiction, humor and thrillers, tales for adults and teens. What I look for are tales that are beautifully told, that drag me in. I look for storytellers that I can believe in. Shean Pao fits the bill perfectly with her debut novel, 'The Feather and the Moon Well.' Legend tells of a sorceress, the Willow Woman, living within a white tower who owns a vast hoard of strange and curious items. If you bring her something precious to add to her Collection, she may grant your wish... or curse you. When she has a vision of a great flaming feather that has the power to free her from her tower- prison, she discovers she will have to create an evil spell for a vile lord in order to get it. Will she risk love, friendship and the terrible war she sees within the Moon Well to obtain her goal? This is the first installment in a powerful new series. Farland says: 'Shean Pao draws upon traditional tales of the fairy realm for inspiration while creating a world that is uniquely her own. The resulting story is richly drawn and seductive. This is a book that stands up to rereading time and time again.' The first novel in the David Farland Discovery Program, 'The Feather and the Moon Well' by Shean Pao to Be Released from WordFire Press.
