Island Stage Left is excited to present their spring show - "A Number" by Caryl Churchill - a taut, psychological thriller, set slightly in the future and centred around the themes of father/son relationships, genetics and cloning.

The production will open tonight, 21st March at the San Juan County Fairgrounds (on San Juan Island, WA) at 7:30. The show runs through 21st April, playing Thursdays - Saturdays at 7:30, and Sundays at 4:00.

Caryl Churchill is probably the most important playwright to emerge from England in the last 50 years. She changed the face of modern theatre with her ground-breaking plays "Top Girls" and "Cloud Nine" and continues to innovate and amaze.

Cast is comprised of two Equity actors:

Erik Gratton (B1, B2 and Michael): Erik is loving his new home of Seattle after spending these last few years enjoying New York and tolerating California. Over the last 10 or so years, Erik's done Shakespeare in Michigan, Missouri, Kansas, Massachusetts, Maine, and New York. He's made people laugh in Ohio and Virginia, confused them a little in Delaware and Wyoming, and they smiled politely at him in California. He has worked on "All My Children" (though they heartlessly cut most of his scenes), done commercials for VH1 and Time Warner, and learned improvisation working with the wonderful Anna Deavere Smith. Erik got to play Hamlet and Wilbur the pig on the same day; he's been paid to learn some kung fu and get beaten up by a nun; last year he spent hours every day chained to a wall. "An actor's life for me." Great to work with this amazing bunch at Stage Left, and thanks to Linda, Savannah and Kyle for every single thing.

Daniel Mayes (Salter): Dan is a founding member of Island Stage Left and a member of Actor's Equity. He has played major roles at the Seattle Repertory Theatre, The Intiman Theatre, ACT, Tacoma Actor's Guild and the Oregon Shakespeare Festival where he also received the Hollywood Critics Dramalogue Award for his performance in What the Butler Saw. For Stage Left, Dan's lead Shakespearean roles have included Shylock, Iago, Benedick, Malvolio, Oberon, Macbeth, Prospero, Jacques, Henry V Chorus, Fluellen, Bottom and Leontes plus various smaller character roles. In non-Shakespeare roles he has been seen as Serge in Art, Lady Bracknell in The Importance of Being Ernest, Dylan Thomas in Christmas Memories, Morgan in The Drawer Boy, Gardner Church in Painting Churches, Henry in The Lion in Winter, Frank in Educating Rita, Father Flynn in Doubt, Matt Friedman in Talley's Folly, Marley in Jacob Marley's Christmas Carol, Howie in Rabbit Hole, Charles in The Clean House, Judge Francis Biddle in Trying, Charles in Blithe Spirit, Michael in Someone Who'll Watch Over me.
